Default Any drawbacks w/ off road pipe?

Hey Experts,
I'm almost ready to headers! Originally, i was going with a cat system. If I scrap the cats and just go with an off-road pipe, is there any drawbacks? Smell? No emissions here. I don't think I'll gain much hp over hi-flo cats. Also if I scrao the cats, I might as well lose the air system, as well?

TIA,
MJ

If you're not having to worry about emissions, then I don't see any drawbacks. I haven't noticed much of a difference in smell like some people complain about. There were only upsides for me - less cost, better performance, better sound (this could be a drawback for some).

Default Sound?

Do you think it was much louder, than with the cats? I'm running the TI exhaust.

Cats can smooth it out quite a bit depending on muffler system, I think with your Ti's you will be very happy w/o the kitties

Default If I...

If I decide to go w/o cats, will I get exhaust popping with the off-road x-pipe. I do have an A4...

I dont think there is much harm to the local air with no cats on a few cars (and I am a card carrying environmentalist), you may get some dusty blackish deposit around the tips though.. I do but my current car is a VR4 and runs rich.

My off road x pipe is a bit louder than my x pipe w/cats. With the Ti's it still isnt crazy loud. I think it sounds good if you dont want an obnoxiously loud car. You will be able to smell the exhaust a lot more if your standing outside the car. I dont think it smells enough to effect your decision. I do not get any popping either. I say go with it. I would if I were you.
