I was thinking of just buying a C6 shift **** for my stock C5 shifter (M6), but the dealer told me it would not fit on the C5 shifter. So, I was thinking of buying the total C6 shifter kit.
Is it a whole lot better than the C5 shifter? They told me that it has a shorter throw.
Any comments would be helpful.
Thanks,
Bob
I didnt like the C6 shifter at all. Still way too lose for me. I put in a Kirban that will accept the C6Z ****. Nice tight notchy feel plus I really liked the C6Z ****. Zip Products sells this. Make sure you get the Kirban with the C6 **** option.
I also have the C6 shifter and like it much better than the C5 shifter. I had a Hurst short shifter, which was too notchy for my taste. The C6 is smooth with short throws. Feels real nice!
I had a Hurst for the past couple years in my 02 Z, took it out to put in a C6 Z06 shifter... the hurst was to notchy for me after a couple years. I am really liking the C6 shifter now.
Does the stock C6 Z06 Shifter fit any stock MN6 C5?
Or do I have to make any modifications to it?
I just installed a hurst Shifter with C6 **** and really like it.
But for everyday driving I found it too stiff and my hurst also makes strange rattling noises sometimes...
If you look at a C-6 shifter base you will notice it is exactly the same as the C-5. The shifter does not have a shorter throw from the pivot point. The shaft is about 1" shorter and is angled toward the rear a little. The illusion of being a shorter shift is shaft length. The **** does feel good. I switched to MTI Six Shooter which is a true short shift unit but not nearly as notchie as Hurst or B&M. 35% as opposed to 40 and 50% for the other two. I really like it. No noise or vibration and I am using a Hurst ball which feels excellent in the hand.

Straight bolt in. Actually easier to swap out than the Hurst install. Keep the insulator pads. Watch the alignment. See tech threads on shifter alignment - REALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO. Proper alignment solves a lot of problems even for a stock shifter. Bad alignment for the most expensive aftermarket shifter will be problematic.

Sounds good. I will try the Z06 shifter. The noises from the hurst is really starting to get on my nerves... Do you know if the Z06 Shifter comes with the factory sealing gasket? (I scrubbed the remainings from the original away like it was described in the hurst manual)
What do you mean with "Keep the insulator pads"? What are insulator pads?
Does anybody know if there is a "how to" for changing the C5 manual shifter to a C6 shifter?
Thanks!!
Search tech forum for removing the shifter. The C6 is a drop in and the job will take at most an hour and three beers on the first time. Next time, it will take less time, need to drink the three beers faster.
