I've just cleaned and am re-oiling the blackwing with a factory "re-charge kit".
My main questions are:
1. How many re-oilings is the "re-charge" kit oil can supposed to have? It seems to me it would be a constant, since you start with a dry, clean filter.
2. How much oil is too much?
The oil comes out like silly string, not a mist. Hard to get coverage without lots of oil on filter. Intstructions are not much help. They say to cover it completely, with no white or light area without oil.
If you're not comfortable doing it, take it and the filter to the guy you bought it from -- have them do it.
It should be "one re-charge kit=1 recharge" If you need more/less oil, you did it wrong. Makes more sense to me. These filters go years between cleanings. Who wants to keep up with 1/2 can or so of oil when the whole kit is only $20! ...and how hard can it be to put a nozzles on it that SPRAYS????
BTW, i've used about 3/4 or so of the oil if that helps anyone to help me.

...oh yeah, and hope the MAF sensor is "o.k." with the extra oil, right? It's not like tire pressure, or aiming headlights. Too much or too little gives serious problems.
Rap the newly oiled filter in paper towels until the oil stops wicking onto the towels. I suggest you do this inside and out. Change as necessary. Next time use a syringe with about a 20g needle on it to apply the oil. Watch and observe a little dab will do yah.

Good idea! What I've been doing is stuffing the insides of the Blackwing with paper towels, then using a low pressure air compressor, blowing into the filter. I've gotten a light spatter pattern that way. Maybe doing that once a day for a few days will get any excess off.
