I guess by post #9 I was getting a little frustrated. Sorry.
Between the early posts, and the instructions, it's a fairly straight forward process.
The instructions are very, very detailed, and very, very self-explanatory.
And very, very simple:
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
I agree with you completely on the straightforwardness (is there such a word? ) of the process. My only real concern with Donaldson's (now SLPs) re-oiling product is fact that their oil container squirts the oil out in a stream, as opposed to the spray pattern shown in your pix.
Don't get me wrong. I have had my Blackwing for several years and it has performed very well. I have re-oiled twice and found it very difficult (and time consuming) to not over-oil. I have strongly considered spraying the oil into a separate sprayer that has a good "fan" pattern and using it to re-oil. Such a simple change would really improve the process.

Mine squirts out in a stream too. Unlike you, I can't stand it when it sprays out.
I find a stream is much easier to control and direct, than when it sprays all over the place.........
Now this is the forum I joined years ago! Thanks for all the help! I've summarized the whole "ordeal" here and added some very enlighting picures. Have a look and let me have your advise please:
I used the K&N spray on my K&N filter and over oiled it the first time. They recommend the bottle and just running some on the top of each pleat and let it soak in. Not sure if you can do something similar with the Donalson oil. Other option might be to spray it into a jar and then use other means to get it onto the pleats.

Thanks. i'm thinking about re-cleaing it and doing that.
You may want to download some of the other filter companies instructions (like K&N and see what they say). I had trouble with the K&N spray as well, very easy to over oil.

This is the first car i've kept long enough to clean the filter on. Seems to be alot of information/miss-information out there. Given the consiquences of doing it wrong, you think it would be down to a science by now.
One other lesson hard learned on my part, I had mine on for one year and after heads went for a dyno. Tuner was having all kinds of difficulties. In the end, it was a K&N filter full of pollen that you couldn't see, but it sure did clog it up. I plan to clean after every spring pollen season now, and with my planned dyno this spring for the FAST intake installation, I am thinking of a new filter and then rotating the two filters.
I've been running the stock box/filter since I started the re-oil drama. I modded the lid to resemble a zip-tie mod. I still have the "ice box" installed, so it's a cold air system, drawing air from the radiator side of the shroud. Tell ya the truth, it feels the same as the Blackwing did. I'm thinking about fine-tuning the stock box to fit better with the ice-box cold air cover, leaving the paper filter in and having more water ingestion protection. Might just be putting up the Blackwing for sale and being done with it.
