Default Cup Holder Lid Removal ????

I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question or that I'm posting in the wrong forum, but...........
How do you remove the drink holder lid on the console? I know that you can buy this lid replacement from Fred Beans so theres a way to install the thing but I haven't been able to find it.
I want to remove the lid so I can put an insert in the opening that can actually be called a cup holder.
Any suggestions or instructions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks !!!

I believe that you have to pull the console/shifter plate trim off. Then you remove the hinge pin.

Not sure what you mean... Remove trim??
iI'll take a look at it in the morning. I was thinking it has to be a pretty fast and easy thing to do. Maybe not.

The radio surround plastics. You know, the thing the cupholder is hinged to, what you have to remove to swap shifters or shift boot.

Sorry, it's been a long day, what I'm thinking isn't making it to the keyboard

Shouldn't be too bad, I think there is a write up on Vette Essentials web site on how to remove the plastic. I think there are 2 10mm nuts underneath the console lid towards the back, then there are 2 more underneath the AH/TC/Airbag light panel, and then you have to remove the little square trim piece next to the ignition switch to get to a torx15 screw, and there is another torx behind the ashtray. Undo all electrical connections, and it should just slide back/up. HTH (at least somewhat)

I was hoping you weren't going to say all that. I've taken the dash apart before to change it out to this yellow dash. I just cant believe to get that lid off, one has to go to such trouble. It's not hard, but time consuming. I was thinking about installing a XM radio so if I have to take the dash apart I might wait and do it all together.
Thanks for your input. Now I finely know at least what it takes to do it.
Thanks again.

I know, I've had the trim off plenty of times myself, (Your dash looks great BTW) and of all those times, I can't remember if the cupholder door snaps onto the hinge pin or not.

Guess I haven't been much help . Let us know how it turns out, I'd be interested in a decent cupholder IF that console doesn't have to come off.

There's 2 small push pins that act as the hinge. Open the cupholder lid, and look down into the cupholder where the lid is hinged, you'll see them. They are kind of a pain to get in and out due to their location, but use a small screwdriver to pop out the tiny center pin, then the whole pin will slide out. No need to remove the console.

Ashtray door is attached the same way.

Default CUP HOLDER LID REMOVED.. New modified cup holder in.

REMOVAL OF LID:

Open the lid, and notice at the bottom sides there are two tiny pins holding the lid on. a large one with a smaller one going right into it.
I was actually able to remove the 2 small center pins with my finger nails. The two larget pins needed a little help.
I used a small flat head screw driver to pull them out a bit and then used needle nose pliers to pull them out. The lid then came right out. Very east removal.

I had previously purchased a double cup holder from corvette central, but I didn't like the way it stuck out on the passenger side. After some thought, I decided to modify it into a single cup holder. Using a Dremel tool I was careful not to cut it to narrow as I wanted the surround to just miss the lighter/ashtray door because I'll be installing a satilite radio in there and also it had to butt up to the outside edge of the console on the right. The opening that was created when I cut the cup holder in half had to be facing the rear so I had to rotate it and recontour the bottom edge. I then took the rubber trim that I carefully removed from the origional holder and put it onto the now single cup older. Lastly I drilled a tiny pilot hole into the console cup holder opening and another into the center bottom the the cupholder. Took a 3/4 inch long flathead screw and attahed it for a solid fit.

I finely have a cup holder that I like and I think looks great. I really like how this mod turned out.

Its actually a fiberglass like coating that looks kindof like glass.
It was a core exchange and you can get whatever pieces done that you want. I had the dash pieces they offer in their kit and then I had the knee panel on the drivers side and the golve box done. a couple smaller pieces also. the name of the company that did it is
www.oemdash.com
they actually use photos of my car for the their c5 corvette kit selection.
ask for stuart and mention that sherry referred you.

I'm hoping it's easier now that I read your answer. I could get the one small pin out, the other one is stuck. Hopefully once they both come out, I can use a screw driver to pull out the next pin that kept snapping back when I pulled it. I didn't force it because I don't want to break it.

Exactly, I googled it after my post and found Corvette clips. A much easier solution and ordered one today. Thank you for the response, and happy driving.
