Default What is this?

What is this and what is it doing on my engine! I'll bet I get a quick answer - I've been searching the service manuals and can't find it pictured anywhere.

Thanks,
MN

I believe it is the fuel vapor solenoid, attatched to the vapor recovery/vacuum line

You can take it off, but you will need to do something with the line. The line is used to pull gas vapors from the tanks to the intake manifold. You do not want the open line in the engine compartment allowing gas vapors in! Either plug it up or reroute to somewhere else outside of the car. The code that it will throw once it is removed can be tuned off.

looks like a bunch of aftermarket coil pks also. you should hurry up and take them off and send them to me!!!!!! they dont match the engines black color. i would be more than happy to help you maintain the appearence of the engine by putting them on my car for you. if you want you could even throw in the pretty headers you have.

seriously though.... why do you want to remove it? just for looks?
i cant see it changeing hp or reducing too much weight!!!! at least not enough weight to go thru all the effort it would take.

If you remove it, the CEL will most likely come on and if you have to pass emissions where your at-you'll most likely fail that too. What's the big deal with leaving it alone?

and you may need to think in the furure about when you might want to sell the car. If you start disconnecting some of the polution controls, you'll narrow-down the areas where you could sell the car. Or, just keep this to yourself, and risk getting a telephone call from the next owner (even a few months after the sale) asking you to make things right or he'll report you to the AlGore police.

Sadly, that's the world we now live within.
