Default Wheel weight at the track

I know a lot has been said in the past about the weight of aftermarket wheels. I'm considering the Cray Scorpions which I know are heavier (but not sure exactly how much). Just as a hypothetical question...can anyone estimate the effect of an additional (lets say) 10lbs per wheel be on the quarter-mile time at the track. Are we talking 10ths of seconds or 100ths? Just curious.

An additional 40 lbs of rotating mass and unsprung wieght should be avoided at all costs......Makes the car ride rougher and extra rotating mass will consume horsepower. Imagine adding 40lbs to your crank, rods or clutch

Somebody on the forum once put their car on the dyno with stock rims and aftermarkets and found that every 3 pounds of extra weight from the rims robbed about 1hp so 10 lbs a wheel would rob about 12hp. If you are worried about weight on the track you could always pick up a used pair of mags or OEM z06s.

A guy who has these did back to back weighing of them, not that heavy..
Thanks...they're amazing wheels for the price. I did weigh them. The 18 was 24 lbs., and the 19 was 25.5 pounds.....barely heavier than my iForged wheels.

Each pound on the wheel is like 4 pounds of non roataing weight. Keep the wheels as light as possible for best acceleration.

I believe my 18/17 Cray wheels weighed 29/26# respectively. I believe my z06 wheels weigh 21/16#. However when I compared the Cray wheels with my old F1 SC's to my Z06's with Nitto 555s there was only 4-6# difference. Of course, my F1 SC's were at 4-5/32 and the rear was a 295 and my Nitto's are brand new with a 305 DR on the rear. I can say the car seems to ride smoother also with Z06s back on. I have not been able to get on the dyno or to the track yet but I will post results. The track results will not be very meaningful since I am now running DR and my old F1SC's felt like I was launching on a wet road. 16-25# of less weight is good either way. The Crays sure look nice though.

Lets not forget that the C5 was actually designed for an 18/19" combo. Due to cost they decided at the last minute to sell them with 17/18". This is why the stock wheels look small for the car. So adding weight for an 18/19 combo is not serious or going to cause any damage. Going to a 19/20" combo would actually be adding weight the car wasn't designed for.

Staggerd wheel sizes are for looks, not performance. The hevery the wheel, and the farther that weight is from the center of the hub the more difficult acceleration is.

If you want a quicker wheel go to a 17" rim and light wt tire. Stay the heck away from 19" wheels for any performacne applications.

I have read it's worth a minimum of three so in either case it's big! Then handling and shock load

For everyy 1lb of rotational mass = 3lb. So 40lb rotating mass = 120lbs. So depending on the weight of the driver & how much gas you have in the tank, might not be that much of a difference. Plus cars that have Navigation, heated seat's, etc... , are going to be heavier than cars without that stuff (crap). Lose the run-crap's and save 6lbs. per tire, and that alone almost off-set's the additional weight!!
