I think I saw this on CF before...but cannot seem to locate it now?
I got caught in the rain and now my shiney, bling bling rotors have an ugly, Saturn ring of rust at the outer edges.
I presume I need to pull the wheels and clean them with something...what? Fine steel wool?
Help...advice...sympathy?
Use a fine emery cloth, like 200 grit. Work from the bottom edge,
and use spray Brake Cleaner (nothing else, only Brake Cleaner),
to wash down the dust and grit from the emery cloth so it doesn't
get under the brake pads. Put a catch bucket under the rotor to
catch the dust and runoff. It's OK if brake cleaner gets on pads,
just don't soak them.
if you don't have access to a sand/bead blaster, be sure to mask off the area of the rotor that the pads seat on, then i use a wire brush on the hat area and the center section between the surfaces the pads ride on. i use compressed air to blow away the rust, tape off the surfaces that the pads ride on, you can see a fine circle where the pads stop and cut the tape there, then paint the color of your choice.
Yes...I might even be able to spell it. I guess it comes form seeing all these cool pix on the Forum and not a one of them appears to have rust??? Pooh!

If they are not zinc coated, short of painting them, they will rust again. You can paint the hats and vent hole area and it will look good for quite a while.
on my 89', i blasted the rotors and painted them and the brackets about 3 years ago. they still look good and no rust anywhere. i just did the same with my 03' Z 2 weeks ago.
Actually (I posted the pictures of the rotors above....) I've never touched those rotors since putting them on....I bought them on eBay (Grip Force F1's) for only about $180.00 for all four. They are zinc coated and have stayed looking just like they do for the last 5K miles....that said, I would never consider racing with these or autoxing...I know what I bought and for the price, I have been happy with their looks and performance on the street............
