I have a question on the wiring on a coolant tank. When I was removing the tank to have it painted, I noticed a electrical connection at the bottom of the tank. It did not have a plug connected. I have a 2003 Convertible? Is there suppose to be something plugged into that connection? If so, where would I find the wiring for it? I looked around and didn't see any loose wires. Can someoone help me locate the wires or tell me if there is a option that would require that plug connection?
The wiring diagram for my 2001 shows that the Instrument Panel is wired to show a "LOW COOLANT LEVEL" warning - but it is marked as NOT USED. There is no wiring shown for a coolant level switch in the surge tank, and the service manual says nothing about disconnecting any wires when removing the surge tank.
Conversely, the Manual clearly shows the wiring, connectors, etc. for the LOW WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID warning system.
I'm guessing that the surge tank has a connection for a sensor, but for whatever reason GM decided not to put the system into our cars.
Thanks for the clarification on the wiring for the tank!!!! I was just wanting to be sure the dealership didn't forget to hook something up on a previous service under the last owner.
1999 was the last year that the "Low Coolant Sensor" was used. I own a 99' and a 00'. 99 has it but the 00' doesn't. Different part number for the tanks too.

BK,
thanks for the valuable info!!! Does it sound like I have a later tank since it has the sensor on it. I see on a service histroy that in 2005 it was R&R at the dealership.

Sounds like you have the "earlier" surge tank installed, as the later cars don't have the sensor. My guess is the dealer had one in the parts department and just went ahead and used the "earlier" one when replacing it. No harm done, the surge tanks should be identical other than the sensor. If you had a 1999 and they'd put the later tank in, then your coolant level sensor wouldn't work. That'd be bad, but you have a later car where the sensor is no longer supported.

Makes good sense on the dealers part. Stock one P/N and be able to repair any C5 that drives in.
