Default Adding a HUD

I have a 97 C5 and I found a cluster gauge with a HUD, the seller says that even though my C5 doesn't have a HUD that the harness should still be there and it should work just fine. Has any one done this before? Any thoughts or comments welcomed. I'm a newbie so pour it on!

I've done a bunch, white plus top center goes to the HUD, that wire will be attached to the HUD projector

2. harness needed(not avail from gmparts) is the 11 pin harness that goes from the switch to the back of the cluster

just reread your post, seller is BS'ing, your '97 will NOT have any HUD harnesses in place

location?

When you say you "found a cluster gauge with a HUD" do you mean the IPC (the gauge cluster?) ??

The IPC in your 97 is not HUD compatible (the HUD projector gets its data from the IPC), and as Steve@CTCorvette points out your wiring harness is not set up for a HUD.

Steve PMed you... what do I need to add HUD to an '01 Z06? I'm assuming I only need the controller switch and the HUD unit right?

Look on eBay, someone had them for sale. Maybe someone on the forum can help out.

It's an easy install to do and you will love it.

PaceThis on the forum (Josh Meeks) is also an expert on this. His kit included the necessary parts to convert the existing light dimmer wire harness into an HUD harness, the projector, and the HUD switch, which replaces the original dimmer switch. The HUD compatible wire harness is key, as non HUD cars do not have the 11 wire harness, and you cannot buy one except from people like Josh who have figured them out.

I put his kit in last month, and absolutely love it! It took five hours total to do the swap using his directions. I thought the conversion harness he created was really cool.

I had one put in today. Pace This did it and took about two hours. He sells everything you need. Please PM him and get the correct info before you waste some $$$. He also has a DVD that he made that goes thru the install.

Keep in mind too that you'll have to either cut an opening in your top dash pad and buy the bezel OR get a pre-cut top dash pad w/bezel for the HUD projector.

You don't have to have a "HUD" windshield either, although you may get some "ghosting" under certain conditions... from what I've read it's really a non-issue.
