I purchased a 1997 Vert with TPIS longtube headers and Borla Quad exhaust. Anybody have an idea how much torque and horsepower this combo has added to this car? It would save me a dyno test.
you should be tuning your car after the headers. WITH the tune you could see over 30 horse,30 torque to the wheels. that would prob put your car around 320 horse with torque similar. with an intake you could prob get around 330. also depends on elevation, temp, car milage, and dyno used. get it dyno tuned.
10-15 rwhp without a tune.. Up to 30rwhp with a dyno tune.. The Borla Quads are mostly for looks and sound... Maybe 3-5 rwhp if that... A dynotune is a must after Longtubes, in order to get the most Horsepower and Torque... You will grin after the install without the tune.. After the tune you will have a permanent grin forever
You are speaking i suppose of rear wheel horsepower--so it really depnds greatly on wether you have an automatic or 6 spd. Drive train loss is 20% for an auto. or 12 % for a 6 spd. An automatic has about 275 RWHP and a 6spd about 300 STOCK--your headers without a tune and a catback exhaust added maybe 19 RWHP. So that puts you at
294 for an auto or 319 for a 6 spd.---
oh yeah a 97 had only 345 crank HP stk.

Probably need to check the VIN and see if someone has cobbled up a '97 coupe or somehow didn't know they had a '98 or later vert and sold it for a '97. If for some reason it turns out it IS a '97 and the VIN documents it was originally a convertible, you probably have the only one in existence since everything I can find indicates the first C5 vert came out in '98. Keep us posted on what you learn.
spend the money on the dyno, well worth it...you will have a definite answer to your question, a baseline for the future mods, and the opportunity to get it tuned!
It may hurt at first, but you'll eventually see its money well spent just to know for sure!
My bad!! I had a 94 Vert and purchased this 97 COUPE I guess I can't let go of the VERT. I appreciate all the valuable info you guys have sent my way. These C5's are a whole other animal. In a good way though!!!
