Yes, I understand that GM didn't chrome the wheels at the factory. BUT, my friend bought the car *new* from a dealer. I've seen the wheels, and they're definitely chrome, not polished. So, how did this happen?

How does this happen?
1) Car arrives at dealership from factory.
2) Dealer takes car into shop, removes wheels from car, removes tires from wheels.
3) Dealer either sends out wheels to be chromed or does a chrome exchange.
4) Big Brown drops off newly chromed OEM wheels at dealership.
5) Dealer installs tires on wheels, then wheels on car.
6) Dealer sells car to gullible customer, and charges, in the case of the previous owner of BitViper's car, $2900 for "factory" option (is it on the Mulroney sticker? If not I say to that claim), or about three times the actual cost to do this.

easy one.
* car wasn't as *new* as your friend was led to believe it was. How many miles were on the odo when he drove home this *new* Corvette?
* car was already sold once, before the buyer took delivery he had dealer replace wheels with chromed ones, then buyer backed out of the deal. Dealer won't want to spend the money to replace wheels back to the original ones (unless they are forced to).
* dealer upgrade??? Some dealers will add items to brand new cars that have never been sold yet.
* this car came from another dealer (not unusual for dealers to swap around stock units). The previous dealer had the wheels replaced...
there were no chrome C5 wheels in the factory - never - at any time. So they couldn't of come from there
