Thanks in large part to the wealth of information presented in this forum, I replaced my knock sensor over the weekend.
All the pics can be found here: http://65.28.45.119/Cars/MyCorvette/...sor/index.html
I'm wondering about the 2 foam pads found on the bottom of the intake manifold.
Are these intended to stop the water infiltration into the knock sensor area?
Also, the front knock sensor was bad. The space where it is mounted was full of oil. Any thoughts about how this space might get oil to it?
The back sensor was fine, and I did not find any evidence of water infiltration.
It's not really oil "IN" the intake manifold so much as it is oil "UNDER" the intake manifold, filling the space that the Knock Detector occupies.
It was actually under the plastic cap.
Only way I can think of is that someone spilled oil during an oil change, or one of the hard lines had a leak. I used RTV to create a dam to prevent any water (or oil I suppose) to enter the knock sensor. There was actually a TSB describing this very procedure for my old SS.
