Default starter grinding

well I have 69,000 on the clock and the starter would grind every now and then. I searched this forum and found a few post, so I changed the starter. The starter had a broken mount flange on the inboard side. the previous owner had a delco reman installed at 39,000 miles. I found a couple of teeth on the flywheel missing . will this hurt anything?

If, when you turn off the motor, that section of flywheel missing teeth stops at the starter shaft you may find it hard to start the car or won't start at all. If there are no teeth in the area of the starter gear there is nothing to engage. If you are missing random teeth on the flywheel, you will eventually tear up the starter gear. Who's to say how long that will take though.

At any rate, you risk being stranded at any given time.

that's a cool avatar, we used to run in the hush house at Luke AFB, the best AB runs where at night outside on the trim pad, that is intense

fw? I'd replace the fw, never seen missing teeth on these

If you find yourself stuck with it grinding on the spot with no teeth, just push the car a few feet and jump in and put it in 3rd and let out the clutch. That should bump the motor a few teeth past the bad spot.
