Well I've been having a few problems with my vette. Not sure if it's a technical problem, but it's still a problem. Well I took my 2004 Automatic Corvette Hatchback to LACR to get a quarter mile run. I know automatics are more consistant and launch faster, so I figured I'd drop my car into 1st gear. As I wait for the green light, I take off, and as soon as I hit about 35 or 40mph, my car starts redlining it. Even while in drive, if I launch it, my car starts redlining, and I have to let go of the gas pedal, let the rpm's go down, and than give it gas. I don't know if it's a governor's chip or not. Well does a 2004 Vette even come with a governor's chip? I don't know, but I have to do something because I can't race my car
Any suggestions on what the problem is? Could it be technical problems, or the governor's chip(if it has one)? I'm open to all suggestions so give me your best thought..
It's hitting redline at 40 mph under full throttle, and you have to get out of the gas to resume acceleration? If so, it sounds like you're smoking the tires or the transmission is slipping.

hmm, that might be. But as soon as I "punch it", in any gear, 1st, 2nd, 3rd or drive, it redline's it and I have to let go of the gas in order for the car to accelerate.
What do you mean by the term redline? It sure isn't what I think it is.

What Does Redline Mean: Redline refers to the maximum engine speed at which an internal combustion engine and its components are designed to operate without causing damage to the components themselves or other parts of the engine.
From your signature, it appears the car is stock. If this is occuring in all gears, sounds like something is slipping. Have you checked the fluid level? Does it have the stock tune? (Some transmission functions can be tuned).
hmm, it's really hard to explain. The car is all stock, well it has borla exhaust, but that's it. If I'm racing from a roll, lets say 35mph, and I "punch it", I'll take off and then all of the sudden I'll be hitting the rev limiter, even if I change gears. I actually have to let off the gas in order to let the rpm's go down so I can continue to accelerate. Which means I can't race at all!
Things to check.
Fluid level, when hot.
Fluid color, hopefully still red and not brown and burnt.
Line pressure.
Forward clutch pack.
Bad converter.
If it is slipping, it is time for a rebuild.
When an automatic trans slips more than 3 or 4 times, that clutch pack or band is toast.
If you put it in gear and hold the bake hard with ebrake also, then roll on the gas and see if it only goes to maybe 2K rpms or so. If it revs past 4K , then try the same in reverse and see if you get the same results.
either way it doesn't sound good. The car should move into gear relatively quickly and there shouldn't be any need to let off the gas. I ran my car down the track many times in stock trim and that never happened.

Based on subsequent posts I see you really meant the Rev Limiter.
