Default Header install question

I'm getting ready to install a Dynatech Supermaxx system on my 04" The question is do I re-use the metal tubes that go over the spark plugs? Or should I buy a set of Kool Sox? Also, the car only has 5k on it, should I install change out the plugs to better ones? If so what brand. Thanks, David

David, I did not use the metal tubes on my plug wires after I installed new wires on my 98. I also have installed the Dynatech headers about two months ago. I have not had any issues yet with the plug wires but I have thought about getting the kool sox for peace of mind. My coupe had 60000 miles before I changed the plugs. I went back with the AC Delcos.

Use the kool sox, then no worries. Another thing you may consider is ceramic coat the headers. I did it on my Dynatech Supermaxx and so far no discolouring and alot cooler under the hood.

Why not just use both?

That's what I did - metal tubes remain in place and my Koolsox slipped right over them - great fit.

BEFORE you install the headers, have them ceramic coated to save on heat and for the LOOKS!! But, do the ceramic coating BEFORE you install them, cause you won't want to install them twice - not a hard job to install them, but just not worth it a 2nd time around

When I did my Dynatech headers (GREAT headers by the way), I installed a set of Melrose plug wires, and scrapped the factory plug wires - I'm currently doing a h/c swap and I looked at the metal end of the factory spark plug boot, and it would not adapt or fit over my Melrose plug wires, so I did not install them

BUT, I did get a little scorching on my plug wires from the headers, EVEN though the Melrose plug wires were supposed to be heat resistant - SO, I installed a set of Taylor Fire Sleeves (similar to Cool Sox, but I think the Taylor Fire Sleeves have a higher temp rating) - I don't have car running YET , but I think the Fire Sleeves are gonna work out fine

My advice, put on a set of Taylor Fire Sleeves or Cool Sox to protect the plug wires - you will eventually need the added protection.

Thanks for the info. Yes I'm looking into having them coated. Thanks again. This is a super place to get great information. David
