I have 97 LS1 and I'm putting in a LS7 motor. On the cranshaft both have 24x reluctor wheels,But on the 97 the teeth are wider(longer) and on the LS7 motor the teeth are narrow(shorter).Does that make a difference? I'm going to be swapping what ever I can from the 97 motor to the LS7 motor. I'm also putting on the timing cover with the sensor on it,So does this timing cover with the sensor on it work with that reluctor wheel (narrow teeth) on the LS7 motor? My rear cover from the LS1 seems to fit on the LS7 is that OK or is there a differenc? Also my cam should work with the newer motor right?I just want to make sure I do this right the first time..............Paul

yes, you have to pull the crank out of the LS7, remove the LS7 reluctor wheel off the crank and swap on an LS1 reluctor wheel. There is a special tool for doing this. There was a long thread on an LS7 swap and all that was need to change to make it work..
The LS7 has the newer style 58x reluctor wheel on the crank and a newer style cam sprocket (for cam position). The 05 LS2 C6's and 06's up to a certain date have a cam sprocket that would work with the older PCM's via an adaptor harness. The LS7 (and newer LS2's) have a newer style cam sprocket that will not work with the older PCM's.
all the 2006 LS2/LS7 and later cars/motors have the 58x reluctor wheel. If yours has a 24x wheel then someone already swaped it out...
Its a short block from SDPC,So I told them what I had and it came with everything to swap over,But like I said it just looks different then the one I have.....Thanks......Paul
