I just found that my AC compressor is leaking oil from the back. I can't see if it's from the line connections, but I'm sure it is. My AC does work but I had to have it recharged about a year ago. Anyone see this problem before or know what has to be done? Thanks.
If you are loosing compressor oil, you should add 4 oz of oil as a precautionary measure. It will not hurt anything. I would also throughly clean the compressor and area around the compressor. Once the area is clean, you will have a better idea what exactly is leaking. You can also add a dye to your oil that is visible with Ultra Violet light. It will show the EXACT leak point!
Most auto parts places sell an oil kit. Some are similar to a syringe. They have a hex fitting on the back end and you use a wrench to turn it which in turn forces the oil into the system through the low pressure fitting.
Just make sure that you get the correct oil for a R-134 system. If they sell an oil with dye, get that one.
Thanks guys, that makes sense. But I bet I still have to break into the system to fix the leak once I find it. I don't understand how it could be leaking oil but still have a charge of R134. Can someone explain that to me?
