Default LS1 LS6 heads

aside from the valves and spring, what are the differences between the two? Using the 04 Z06 LS6 springs, push rods, cam, intake, and exhaust manifolds, how much less HP would I have by not using the complete LS6 head. I'm can't afford all the high dollar stuff. Hoping to buy the left overs from someone building a motor and using my stock heads. I have 99 FRC with 52000 miles

Why would you semi-upgrade to the Z06 stuff? It's a baby cam in comparison to what you could spend the money on, even better is that you can build your own setup. The LS6 intake should net you in the neighborhood of 10rwhp youre going to want it with an aftermarket cam, that car needs to breathe. In the future I plan on getting the intake and building the rest as stated, 99 FRC 48k miles

the Z06 chambers are smaller, increasing the compression ratio, and ports are larger and flow a lot better than the LS-1's. you're giving up a lot of hp by not going to the heads. you can find a good used set at a good price here on the forum.

You should get a compression check to see if your rings can handle the higher compression ratio when going to the LS6 heads. Also, go with a bigger cam than the stock LS6 cam. There are a lot of midrange cams that will give you a much more substantial gain over the LS6 cam and still keep you ideling like stock and smog legal.

I made the mistake of going with the LS6 cam and heads with shortie heads, LS6 intake and dyno'd at 350 rwhp on my A4.
But I'm now doing what I should have the first time around. A 224/224 cam and a set of Patriot heads, long tube headers. My goal is 400RWHP.
To me this what you have to do. Set your rwhp goal and do the mods that will get you there the first time. Plan well and spend wisely.
