Default Question on Weiand polished intake

I am having a head & cam done next week. I have a weiand intake that will also be put on. Does anyone know if the factory fuel rail covers will work with this intake? Thanks Guys

Just curious, but why go with the aluminum one? They are known for heat sink and are much heavier than the composite.

Thats good info. What exactly is this "heat sink" and how much heavier is an aluminum intake than a composite?

Thanks.

The intake gets hot very quickly and cannot get rid of it(and polishing makes this worse), thus heating up the incoming air and degrading performance. As for the weight, I am not sure exactly what the aluminum one weighs, but I would estimate at least 5 pounds heavier, maybe more.

Your profile says you have a 2002. If the info I've read is correct, you have the good composite intake manifold, so probably not much gain out of changing it. Coupled with the heat soak problem mentioned above, You're probably best as you are. With money in your pocket for other mods.

The plastic intake is hard to swallow for us throwbacks to the cast iron manifolds and Holley carbs, but after a bit of working on the Vette, I'm happier with what I've got. That darned old Mustang (see photo to left) never did get better than maybe 14 MPG, and ran rich at anything less than WOT, so frequent plug changes were the order of the day. Ever change plugs on a big-block Mustang? Makes number seven on the Vette look downright easy.

To be honest with you,i bought the manifold before i thought about the heat sink issue.I spent the money on it so i figured i would put it on. I decided that if the fuel rail covers didnt fit with this manifold i wouldnt use it.

Well, at least you're in a state where you probably won't have to put the stock one back on every two years for a smog check. And if they were all bad, they wouldn't sell as many as they do. If you've got it installed, see what happens. But you'll probably benefit from a cold air induction system, to add a little more cool to the aluminum. PM me if you ever plan to sell the stock intake... I may be interested, as the stock LS2 intake reportedly fits, and looks stock enough to get past the visual check every couple of years. Still waiting to see if the Vararam looks stock enough

I still can't get used to a lump of plastic on top of my engine...

I agree with others, and as I used to have the Weiand Alum intake I would go with the LS6 over that anyday. Not only for the heat sink, but weight also. The weiand intake honestly weights in at over 10 LBS over stock. It will fit with your fuel rails, and your FRC's shouldnt be a problem either.( mine fit anyway)

The only time when I deem this intake necessary is if you are running high boost levels or N20. The Weiand intake can take alot more abuse than the composite with those conditions. Otherwise I would stay with the LS6.

Sell it on eBay or the parts section, they sell plenium covers that look like chrome for your stocker if you want to dress it up, I have carbon fiber myself.
