Default DIC reads "LOW" for oil temp

The last couple of times I've started my car (2001 MN6 Coup) during cold weather the DIC reads "LOW" instead of providing an Oil Temp reading in degrees. Today I drove the car 45 miles with the "LOW" reading. A couple of times I pulled over, shut it off, pulled the key and restarted and the "LOW" reading remained. I was convinced I had a bad sensor or a loose wire. After I arrived at my destination and parked for a couple of hours the reading was normal (in degrees) at start up and was normal on the return trip. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas how to correct it if it happens again?

Exact same thing happened to me today. Probably just a lazy sensor.

I had that happen one time when I had parked outside on an extremely cold day of winter. I posted a ? back then, and it turned out to be a fairly common "bug/feature" for extreme cold. It should have reset itself if everything was up to operating temperature and you shut-off and restarted the car. It did for me the one time I saw it.

There is a glitch in the computer. If your oil temperature is under 15 F, it will show "low". It will keep showing low until you restart the car WITH the oil temperature over 15 F.

Gas guage and remaining miles to empty also go LOW at about 50 miles.

My 04 did the same thing. Check your engine oil level. If your car is parked on a less than level area, this may also fool the sensor.

Mine did that after changing out the rear exhaust on a 50 degree day, plug just came loose under the rear end. Prob not your problem but worth a check
