The last couple of times I've started my car (2001 MN6 Coup) during cold weather the DIC reads "LOW" instead of providing an Oil Temp reading in degrees. Today I drove the car 45 miles with the "LOW" reading. A couple of times I pulled over, shut it off, pulled the key and restarted and the "LOW" reading remained. I was convinced I had a bad sensor or a loose wire. After I arrived at my destination and parked for a couple of hours the reading was normal (in degrees) at start up and was normal on the return trip. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas how to correct it if it happens again?
I had that happen one time when I had parked outside on an extremely cold day of winter. I posted a ? back then, and it turned out to be a fairly common "bug/feature" for extreme cold. It should have reset itself if everything was up to operating temperature and you shut-off and restarted the car. It did for me the one time I saw it.
There is a glitch in the computer. If your oil temperature is under 15 F, it will show "low". It will keep showing low until you restart the car WITH the oil temperature over 15 F.
