I will tell you what needs to happen to your car to do the install. The trans needs to be removed and the new gears need to be installed along with the rest of the parts reinstalled. it takes about 6 hours to complete. Were you planning to do this yourself?
It's a new complete 3:73 differential from Cartek, not just gears. I plan on doing it myself with a friends help. I'm replacing the 3:15 diff. It shouldn't be much harder than the stall converter, at least that's what I've heard. Anyone have any links or tips? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler?
When I said "install the gears" I was talking about installing the entire carrier. Maybe it would be good for you to invest in a shop manual? Buelher!
I did mine myself. It's really pretty straight forward. You don't have to remove the driveshaft tunnel like the manual recommends. I don't have any links, but if you have help, it sholdn't take long. It took me about 4 hrs with a lift and air tools to intall the converter and gears.
You did say "install the gears", and "other parts", which made it sound like I plan on opening the diff. I did get in on the GP with Cartek and I am waiting on the 3:73. I'm just wanting to know if the swap is as straight forward as the TC was. Shop Manual?
:p:
sorry for the misunderstanding, since the gears dont come any other way but in the carrier... I thought you would understand what I meant.
The other parts that I am talking about are the exhaust, swaybar, halfshafts and disconnecting the sensors. What did you remove when you installed the TC? The same parts?
Yes. I just talked to Dave at Cartek. He said they had a delay but I should be getting it by the end of next week. I spoke with him about the install, sounds very basic and much easier than the TC. We didn't take everything completely apart for the TC install, just removed exhaust and drive shaft cover, supported engine at driveshaft to protect firewall(just to be safe), dropped the diff. down just enough to replace the TC. My Vigilante didn't have the nuts welded to the back so that was a delay. I can't understand why there's no convienent way to fill and check the trans. fluid. Breaking pins on the 20 pin connector was the most of my worries, I'm not much with electronics, I can do everything else. Hypertech is waiting, they want my car on the dyno so they can get the 3:73 programming.I know all about the tuner wars, but hey, they are local and my programmer and stat were free in exchange for the 99'auto tuning, so we'll see how it goes! :seeya
I was referring to my TC install and trans fluid, but I'm sure the GM diff. fluid(most likely Mobil One Synthetic gear lube)is just as comparable as Redline or another "quality" synthetic. I'll stick with what GM uses. :seeya

vetterdstr :seeya
The trans does not have to be removed to replace the rear diff... ;)
