This message is posted on another website so don't freak if you've seen it before. I looking for maximum coverage and information.
My 2000 FRC is in the shop right now and they say I need a fuel pump. The service rep told me the cost would be about $3200.00 for the work to be done. This sounds like the biggest rip off attempt in history. Can anyone, ANYONE give me some info on this immediately? I need to get back to this dealership to let them know what to do.
Thanks in advance.
F*ck that!!!!!!!! I have changes pumps numerous times, and you are looking at a 1 hour job (most of which is spent watching fuel drain
If you have the 03 and newer you have to remove the drivers tank to get it out, so add another hour to be safe. Bring it to me and I will do it for 500 bux including the new LPE pump.
Just saw it was a 2000...my price droped to 400 including the pump
In all seriousness, this is way overpriced. Find a Forum vendor in your area to get the work done. I believe Steve of CT corvette is near you, or ECS amoung other. I am sure your price will be much more reasonable
Yeah, I can tell when someone is trying to pull my drawers down. I called two other dealerships in the area and they charge between $800 and $1200 for the job. I'm going to have my car flatbedded to one of them.
Thanks for your reply.
that's still ridiculous!!!!! I paid 375.00 to have my fuel pump put in. I also have a 2000 FRC. I would take Mr. Big's advice and try a local vendor. I installed a racetronix kit during my 408 build. Good luck.....
Here's the latest. I called the stealership and told them I had talked to two other dealerships that would charge me no more than $1200. I then asked the rep to fax me a itemized list of what they plan to do that was so different from the other dealerships. They fax it and then immediately called and apologized. The then said they would do the work for $1000 out the door. I took the discount because the other dealerships had to order the parts. The stealership had them on hand and I can get the car back tomorrow.
Just some advice!
The dealership told me my fuel pump was gone too but its working perfectly.
Have you checked the relay and fuses?
I still havent found what is wrong with mine!
I posted my thread in this section, check mine, see if sounds linke yours

No, I haven't checked the fuses or relays. When the car broke down, I was in South East Washington D.C. I needed more to keep my head on a swivel than I needed to check fuses. When the car stopped I called roadside assistance and got the hell out of there as quick as I could. It was daytime but still not the safest area in the city. I really needed to get my car out of the area. As posted before, I was in no position to bargain or start pulling maintenance at the time.

You could still have it towed out of there and come out ahead, especially if you have AAA.
I will as soon as I get my car back. I don't want any suprises (bag of fish or shrimp under my seat) to deal with. They said it would be ready tomorrow. I post the name then.

I have AAA but my insurance company's roadside assistance is better (USAA). They respond faster tow your further for free. I don't have the AAA premium package.
Ourisman Chevrolet off Branch Road in Marlow Heights, MD.
They are the ones that tried to rip me off. After being caught they dropped the price to $1000.00 out the door. When I came to pick up the car today there was tax and fuel fees to pay. Needless to say it ended up being $1100+ to get out the door.
They fixed the problem but the fact remains, they tried to bend a brotha over. So, they will never touch my car again if I can help it. I'll pay the extra money to go elsewhere.
WOW. It's amazing that someone tried to bend you over for 3x what they ultimately "settled" on and about 6x what you could have had it done for. I did a 2 hour fuel pump job on my 2002 when I knew *absolutely nothing* about my Corvette or any other car for that matter, other than how to change the oil.
