Default Ported MAF Question

I'm considering the purchase of a Ported 75mm MAF sensor that also has no screen. Im wondering if this will throw any codes, and also wondering what kind of CFM gains I might expect?

I have a new CAI and Corsa Pace catback,.......Headers & 3" X-Pipe on the way as well as Highflow Cats, so I'm wondering if this ported MAF (for $100) is worth purchasing to add to all the rest?

Thanks!

I say no. I ported mine on both my cars and the HP gain was like maybe 0 to 1/2 hp gain. Oh, on the vette it seemed to run fine but on my trans am it made it ping like hell.

So going with a new intake and a new exhaust system is all the HP I will gain, regardless of whether I use my stock MAF w/screen OR install a Ported MAF w/no screen?

Installing a ported TB may or may not help you. It all depends on the state of your tune. Anytime you change the air flow thought the MAF, you throw off its calibration. That usually effects your fuel economy (in a bad way). When your in closed loop operation (cruising and not in open loop WOT), you need the MAF calibration to be correct to get good throttle response and decent fuel economy. When you port the TB it will flow better at WOT and that is where you would/maybe see a slight seat of the pants difference. Your at part throttle most of the time when your driving you C5 and if you screw up the MAF calibration, it makes it just that much less fun to drive.

Trust me on this one! I did it. I installed LT headers, 3" exhaust system, high flow cats, vararam, ported TB and a smooth coupler. i saw a HP increase but horrible fuel economy. I went from 30 MPG on the highway to 22-23 MPG!
I had my car tuned and the tuner did a good job with the WOT part of the tune but did a half A$$ job tuning the MAF. It increased the MPG to 24-25 and I saw another 20HP. I had fantastic WOT HP and TQ but my fuel economy still SUCKED! I purchased EFI Live and tuned it my self! Now I'm back to 28-29 MPG and a few more horses to boot!

If you install the TB and had some one sit down with EFI Live or HP Tuners and re-calibrate your MAF, you would see a better gain.

Have you had your PCM tuned? If not, I recommend it.

No, I figured I'd wait until after I do the intake and exhaust install before getting it tuned. I finally found a couple posts on ported MAF's, and from I gathered the only real benefit was a quicker throttle responce. I think I'll just hold off for now on worrying about the MAF or the TB. Thanks a lot for the useful information though, I'll keep it in mind!
