Default Turn off DRL's?

Is it true that if you pull the e-brake up one click the DRL's turn off?

I thought I read this somewhere but it doesn't work on my C5.

It would be nice to run in stealth-mode sometimes and avoid unwanted attention.

you can pull the 15a #2 fuse under the hood. No more approach lights. I did this when my left side approach light went out. (Just Until i got the bulb replaced.) I didn't like the way the car looked with only one light on.

You are going to have to find it, but you can pull a couple relays and put in a couple jumper wires. DRL is off but the approach light function is retained.

Here's how to do it without any codes and everything works.

Taken from another CF forum member (don't remember who)

Here is how to disable them permanently and it is reversable and does not affect the operation of any other lights. Cut and paste follows.
1. In the passenger footwell, lower the front carpet.
2. Remove the foot panel.
3. Locate the IPEC (Instument Panel Electrical Center) It looks like the fuse box next to the battery.
4. Remove the cover of the IPEC.
5. Turn it over and find the diagram of the components.
6. Locate relays 38 and 40. (38 controls the right DRL and 40 the left)
7. Pull each relay and carefully remove the cover.
8. Insert some type of insulator between the relay contacts (matchbook cover cardboard or the plastic from a coffee can lid works well) that you have cut to fit.
9. Replace relay cover, replace relay, replace IPEC cover, replace the footwell.

I didn't like thr drl's on so I unplugged the fuse with no problems. The drl's aren't on anymore and also when you use your fob to unlock the car, the reverse lights don't light up, but who cares. The reverse lights do work when in gear though.

Um, this is under Secrets of the C5 , sticky in C5 General...

"● If you hate DRLs you can pull the e-brake ONE click and they go off."

What gives? Is this or is the sensor in my ebrake afu?

I know that my 2002 Z06 will not put up the headlights (twightlight centenial) or turn on the DRL's when the parking brake is on. I think the engineers did that to remind drivers to release the parking brake.

On my 2000, if I pull up the emergency brake one notch before turning the key and starting the engine, the drl's will stay off. The headlights are normal. However, you have to leave the emergency brake at 1 notch while driving or the drl's will come on.

O.k started the car with ebrake at one notch and drl's came on. Tried starting it again it again with ebrake all the way up and they did not come on. Put the ebrake at one notch, backed out of the garage, pulled forward a few feet and they came on. Brake light was lit on the dash so the car recognized the ebrake was up. I don't get it. I don't want to permanently disable the drl's because I actually think they look cool. I just wish I could turn turn them off sometimes. I guess I'll just wish in one hand and sh#t in the other and see which one fills up first.

Thanks again fellas.

Speaking of headlights going up, can anyone answer or point to the right post to answer this one? On my 97 Coupe my lights don't like to pop up all the time, lately I have had to turn the switch two or three times to get them to pop up. I don't hear any odd sounds and when they do go up there seems to be no problems so I have pretty much made the assumption that it isn't anything mechanical. Has anyone else had this issue and if so what was the endstate? I saw a thread where a similar question was asked but it wasn't answered and I can't seem to find it again. Thanks in advance.

FWIW My 99 DRL's come on with the EBrake one notch up... I'm not sure about the C5 secret thing. Maybe we should get the Myth Busters in on this one?

i enjoy spotting oncoming C5's by their DRL's from a distance.

if i'm traveling with the kids and see the DRL's i yell "corvette!" and their heads pop up and try to find it.
