i have a high pitched whine coming from under the hood, related to engine speed not wheel speed or fan speed. some talk about a bird chirp...what do you mean by chip, do you mean constant high pitched while, that goes away with just the slightest bit of moisture in the air, or after a car wash? also i have manual tranny 2000 vert
i just had that same problem on mine after i washed the motor. it was the tensioner pully. i found this out by spraying a little pb blaster(wd40) behind the bolt washer for the pully it went right away.
I have a S/C so its a little different but I had the chirping only after some acceleration...then it went away...then it came back and would chirp non-stop untill i had been driving for atleast an hourish. Anyways it was a bad idler pully and im getting a new one on right now so hopefully that takes care of it.
I used a paper towel cardboard tube and listened to different engine parts and I have a high pitch whine, almost like a supercharger, but lower volume coming from the alternator. It varies with rpm's and is noticeable in a garage or with the hood up.
i didnt want to hear alternator or a/c pullys, but tensioner is ok. i sprayed white lithium grease behind that about 3 months ago and that made it go away, but now its back and this time the grease didnt work. might try wd40 this time.
Just to clarify, my whine is coming from inside the alternator, not the pulley. Sounds almost like an air or vacuum leak, varies with rpm. It's not to the point of being obnoxious, but annoying.
