I think the term "best detector" is subjective, but I have been using the Bell RX65 for the past few years and have no complaints. It has saved my butt many times. I highly recommend it.

The Vallentine I used has been perfect also the vascar method is a technique used by the Police and not a measurement.

I heard Valentine was good but pricey. I use a Cobra 6 band Mdl # ESD 7000. Purchased at Target for about $35. Radar works by line of sight so, on a freeway I get about a 1-2 mile range. Picks up signal way before you see a patrol car. On curvey country roads the units can't see around corners. So, drive careful.

Bel and Passport are about equal in ability. You get what you pay for. Do your research and buy one. Personally, I would buy the Bel, they have been good to me. Good luck!

Check out the electronics section.... the debate never ends...

We have both, the V-1 over the Passport 8500 X50
But other shave both and prefer the reverse....

It is very subjective and personal preference and bias overcome real performance differnces

This is the best advice. But if you still want a detector then the Escort 8500 X50 hands down.

Valentine. Knowing where the radar is coming from is almost as important as knowing it's there at all. Many of the top detectors do extremely well. So close, it's almost a preference more than anything.

BUT:

Want a real world "value"? Check new prices, then check ebay for what they sell for used. It's a cold hard reality check for lots of people who didn't buy a Valentine.

Isn't VASCAR where they time you thru a know distance ?? Kinda like how NASCAR does pit lane speed.

BTW, my vote is Escort x50

You get what you pay for! Valentine 1 is slightly more expensive for a reason. Check what is being sold used and that will give you an idea of what is worth keeping. Lots of Bells and Passports for sale.

I went with the Passport 8200 X50 and am happy with it. I've heard good things about the valentine unit but have no first hand experience. Looked more like a brick than a RD however.
