My car feels like you describe; but I believe it's due to the sensitivity of the steering. What were you driving before this vette? My take on the BMW thing is, drive the car as you see fit. I think it's safe to say we have all exceeded the speed limit at one point or another.

thats one way of putting it... i dont like to road race but im not about to lie and say that i havnt,,, and if your one of those guys that drives their vette 5mph under the speed limit at all times then i have something to say to you,,,, buy a cadilac gramps!! and get tha heck out of the left lane... one time i was traveling up I-35w from austin to ft worth ,, where there is two cars for every 30miles ... and i decided to top my stock car out... i hit 155mph and it wobbled like a washing machine... bilstine shocks and lowered solved that prob
Thanks guys, Hey crackerbear did you lower the car using stock stuff? If so I may just try that first..I have almost had every car there is to own really, but my last car was a pretty fast 2001 z28 theat handled very well. Car was not stock though.

Like many Vette owners I have had my car at speed for a while, but I only did it on a closed course. I feel pretty confident in my abilities as I have driven rails, spint cars (professionally), and Formula Z. The fact is that most drivers of any kind of car, should not drive "at speed" unless they are very skilled and knowledgeable about their car and its quirks. Many years ago a NASCAR driver named Jim Hertabize (sp?) said that most "average" drivers on the road should not exceed 45 mph as they are unsafe. Most Vette owners take pride in their driving skill and they are more talented than most based on the car that they drive. There are not to many cars that will exceed 140 off of the showroom floor.
Also, the car should be mechanically "sound" to operate at that speed. Lack of knowledge and mechanical problems will reach out and bite you when you least expect it. If you loose it at speed the chances of recovery are slim to nill unless you really can anticipate what the car will do and its overall capabilities. An accident is is considered an accident, but there are always contributing factors cause it. If it if your fault or the fault of another on a public highway someone is going to suffer. If it is on a closed track it is the driver that will suffer. The car can do alot, but conditions, skill, and the mechanical soundness of the vehicle can cause even the best drivers to wind up looking up at the brown side of growing grass. God grows trees to stop drunks and idiots. Keep it safe and keep speed where it belongs. If you want to go fast take a high speed drivers course and stick to a closed course.
Keep it safe as the forum wants to keep members.
I consider myself a very talented driver on a 200mph bike or a 180 mph car. So with all that said I am a safe driver and a damn good one at that. I have had several cars in fact over 100 and can count about 6 or 7 of them with over 500 dynoed horsepower I can handle my cars. Not saying accidents cant happen cause they do to everyone and all of us. But if you are responsible and do these things in the right places you sure can considerably cut down on the chances of an accident happening to you. Anyway I look foward to getting to know some of you guys and offering you some tech advice in the future if you need it.

Hey man I am a 15 year professional in the Auto Glass field some guys may have question that I can answer. Some may not but there is no reason to act like you are twelve..
At 140 the car is getting starting to get "loose". And the run flats are not your friends then. My son lost control of his '99 (148 mph) by just trying to make a simple (nothings simple at 140 +) lane change and the car just went sideways. Slid 150ft sideways, went down an embankment, jumped a ditch, knocked down 20 or 30 saplings, and ended up in the underpass median after knocking down the 4X4 post holding the stop sign (800 total feet of sliding and knocking around). Every panel on the car was broken in some place. Rear flexed so hard it broke the back hatch glass. Computer was ripped out, A- Arm torn off, etc . Road crew just shoveled all the debris and glass back in the the car passenger seat. Totalled.
Bottom line check all the stuff and be careful..these cars good, but not idiot proof to drive.
I checked the tires the are going the right way and the tires are cooper zeon 2x5 z rated. Man that is a scary ride hope your son was ok after all that. I went down on a bike at a very high rate of speed it is scary..
i use to stunt ride and make videos on an R1 ,, i took a 140mph spill in leathers ended up sliding through a wet cow pasture for a total of 305yards.. not a scratch if you can believe that,, just on big *** brusie on my hinde end
