Have faith in the direction you're going. First of all, I did indeed see many LS1s with heads and cam mods getting "only" 114-115mph traps in cool sea level air. If it's an automatic f-body, that's acceptable if the cam offers good driveability. Some less streetable LS1s are easy 116-120mph traps and a few even automatics going low low 11s@120-124+mph.

A friend of mine in a warm day at Capitol ran 12.68@113.9mph with a '99 hardtop with only 3 mods (twin flow filter, ecklers modified maf, borla cat-back xr-1 system). in cooler air with hypertech power programmer and the cats still intact and drag radials, the car ran 12.2s@114.5mph. Another friend with a '96 Firebird ran 12.2@115.9mph with unported LT4 heads/manifold (similar flow to LS1s at higher valvelift), LT4 HOT cam, long tube header, mufflex 4", 52mm throttle body, 4.10s and Ed Wright tuning. This means a more aerodynamic and lighter Corvette (compared to the Bird) with ported LS1s should approach 120mph traps.

On normally aspirated Chevy SB and latest LS1s buildups, usually disappointing results in trap speeds have been the cam selection for the given cylinder head flow characteristics. Usually a lot of exhaust lift and duration is needed compared to the intake. Unfortunately you really can't put enough before drivability and emissions considerations become adversely affected. Hence as a ported at CNC Heads Inc. put, it's important to concentrate on getting as much exhaust flow out of the head for the given valve life so you can stick with moderate levels of having more exhaust lift/duration in the cam and therefore have an excellent streetability and performance combo. Look to the cylinder head flow sheets. Combined with the cubic inch displacement (in particular the stroke), you'll have the answer to your cam.

With the LS6 manifold, the upper barrier of performance is raised. And the beautiful LS6 head allows you to bust past 120mph (after porting) trap speeds (6-speed) and still have a reasonably smooth cam. In conclusion you should have faith in good performance numbers. With headers, ported LS1s, cam upgrade, hi-flo cats, aerodynamic coupe profile your C5 should pull nicely on a showroom stock '02 Z06 with 116mph trap speeds.

This depends a lot on the entire setup. Long tubes help. 6-speeds help. Etc. A good stage II setup with a decent sized cam should get you in the 117-118 MPH range with exhaust, intake and such.
Good Luck,

*LS6 Intake Manifold
LS6 intake manifold? Since when does the LS6 get a different intake manifold than the LS1? Is there something I don't know? I always thought that the *2001+* intake manifold was the *same* for *all* LS1 and LS6 motors.

My point is that there isn't an *L6* intake manifold. The manifold is different for *all* 2001+ C5s.

DSK888:

It seems that a strong running stage II heads and cam car with stock bottom end is usally good for high 11s. To hit low to mid 11s I suggest that you do need a little more extra such as bigger cubes or something similar to the Z500 LS6 heads and cam which is putting out around 440 rwhp and mid 11s in the 1/4 mile.

Goodluck and happy Viper Hunting :D
