Yes, you can take off the window wiper panel and then cut a hole in the body panel. Some people said this lets in more noise.
Another way to prevent taking off the manifold IN THE FUTURE, is to do a remote location for the sensor. But this won't help you the initial time, as you still hve to take manifold off to do this.
BUT, I guess you could cut a hole AND remotely locate your sensor !
It really doesn't take very long to replace this sensor. You should be able to do it in 1.5 hours the first time and a lot quicker than 1 hour thereafter.
If you do the "cut the hole in the panel under the wiper blades" be sure to stuff a rag back between the engine and the firewall. I almost lost the new switch back there, took 20 min to fisk it out.
i just cut the hole. took 20 mins. except now i gotta open it all back up cause i forgot to put some tape over the hole i cut. now the smell of the engine compartment makes its way into the channel and into the a/c vents.
