Default Headlight problem

For a while now my headlights have had a delay when I turn them on. A lot of the time it will take a few minutes for them to pop up after I turn the switch to on. I am really not sure why because I don't hear any grinding noises or anything from the motors.

Just recently my headlights don't want to come up sometimes and the low beams won't turn on sometimes either. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.....Does anyone know what could be going on?

With the 98 you might have some corrsion in the harness contacts. Its the gray electical connection on the fender well next to the motors. Or the control module itself is giving out but you do say they work after some time so I'd check in the gray connector first for any green, white, or rust looking stuff. Clean and put some of that electric grease stuff on it.

Checked the connectors and they don't any signs of corrosion on them. I just don't understand why they only work sometimes and not others...

Well I looked at all the connections, fuses, and breakers yesterday and all of them appear to be fine. Anyone think that the problem could be from the headlight switch?

I also have the same problem on my 00. There will be a delay in the headlights popping up and sometimes the dash lights wont come on till i get going down the road. Sometimes flicking the highbeam switch makes my headlights pop up. Im stumped.

My thoughts are a bad ground, low battery voltage or bad headlamp switch.

Could you tell me where the headlights ground location is? I was also thinking it could be the headlamp switch because they will usually come on after flicking the brights many times.

I would suggest the headlamp control module. Although my failure wasn't quite the same. In my case, the lamps would come on, but sometimes they would not come up.

I don't know where that ground is located off the top of my head. I'll have to consult the service manual and get back to you.

I'm having problems with my 98 also. Unplugged the 2 harnesses from the control module and water gushed out. Looking for a headlight door opening module and new pigtails.............trying to find one without giving the general $275.
Any ideas where to search?

I got my headlamp control module off ebay. Too the chance, but it worked.

SOCALSALVAGE - I know it sounds impossible to have both fuses blow (for whatever reason) at the same time but you might try replacing the #10 and #8 (leftlobeam and rightlobeam) 10 amp fuses. Why they might be blowing is another issue. I had this happen with my passenger side where the motor would work, high beam would work but not lo beam. Just a thought

OPTWOVETTES - I just bought a headlight motor actuator control module from Gene at Karshop. It fixed my problem with my drivers side motor. Gene is a forum vendor and good to work with.

Default control "stalk"

Went through the same thing with mine last year - had to replace the control stalk. ~$150 (i think, maybe 180?) from gmpartsdirect
