Default Rear brake caliper upgrade question

I have seen some C5 owners upgrading their rear calipers and rotors with ones from the front. Are there any posts on this? How to do, step by step instructions.

Thanks,

I wouldn't do that.

Only a small fraction of the braking is done from the rear anyway. Putting front level brakes on the rear would cause the rears to lock up instantly. The rear brakes are not even the same size (12" vs 13"....)

they bolt right up, but you lose your parking brake along with the different piston volume which throws your bias off and stretches the capibilities of your master cylinder

The guys who put their front calipes on the rear have done so as they put NEW bigger calipers up front.

too keep the brake bias to the front

There is one guy on here who is running C5 front brakes on all 4 wheels. I think he posts under Eracer. He runs a dedicated race car.

He posted a couple of months ago about having problems with the braking and asking for suggestions. Seems the rear brakes were working too well making the car twitchy.

With your braking system, you want the fronts to lock up before the rear because this situation is much easy to control. The car still generally goes straight ahead. Not the case when the rears lock up first.

Most of your braking power is in the front because when you mash the brake pedal the car's weight transfer up front. Probably 70% or so of your braking power is in the front. The stock brakes are fine for most situations except road racing. The problem with road racing is the brakes get too hot causing the brakes to fade or fail. That why people who road race usually upgrade brakes.

FWIW, the limit on your braking ability is not the brakes themselves but your tires. That why you can lock your brakes up in the first place.

Hope this was useful.
