Default 427 big cubed motors

several questions to start who all has a 427 or big cubed N/A motor? how do you like your setup? what is your average cost for motor install and tune if you dont mind me asking. i want high tens or low elevens in the quarter i do not want n02 or FI. i have a dte stgII diff with 3.90's and i am about to buy a cartek clutch setup. what are you big cubed guys running in the 1/4. i know some guys run my goal times on H/C ls1's but i do not plan on launching the car at 5 grand i want low elevens or high tens with 1.8-1.9 60'. thanks for any info or advice thanks guys i love having all of this info at my fingertips this forum is great

My motor is being built right now so I can't answer your questions, but you might get a better response in the "C5 perf results" sections

You're usually looking at around $20k for a 427 installed with all the bells and whistles. Depending drivability requirements a 427 can make anywhere between 520 and 600rwhp. A nice streetable 550rwhp setup should give you easy 10s on drag radials with easy 1.9 60ft launces.

If you're looking to save some money, a 402 can be had for maybe 10-12k installed. You'll need a bigger cam to make the same 550rwhp, but it can be done. I'm a little out of the loop, but I think there are some new L92 options (414cid?) that may even be a bit cheaper thant the LS2 402s.

Actually, what you're talking about is my future goal. Easy 10s without the hard 1.4 60ft launches. I've already done the hard launch thing with my old 10 second H/C FRC. It was awesome, but those launches got expensive REAL QUICK!

Mine is under construction right now. See my signature for what I am using. The long block should be assembled this week. I will have around $11.5k in mine for everything incluing assembly and installation. I will be tuning it myself.

You can get a L92 longblock 418 for around 9k from Texas Speed or from SDPC or why not a LS7 from SDPC that is fixed with wetsump and the right parts just to bolt in around 13,5k then you need some nice headers 1 7/8 and some other parts so ..... after a while it adds up to a nasty little pile of money but you only live once and no xtra life ....

I drive mine everyday have have so for over 3000 miles with zero engine problems, had a minor clutch issue but no big deal. Havnt gotten a chance to take it to the track but it should go bottom end 10s high 9s on pump gas. The car can take down street bikes with little effort. To be honest if your goal is low 11s a nice heads and cam setup will get you there for a lot less money.

I have a 449 BTW

You can have a KILLER 427 Longblock built for around $12,000.00 utilizing the battle tested LS2 Sleeved 427 shortblock which KATECH offers for $,6,999.99, as a rotating assembly. Throw on some ETP or Trick Flow 225 Heads or LS7 heads and you are off to races.

This Kateck sleeved LS2 making 427 with a 4 inch crank is by far the BEST VALUE/BANG for a 427 motor!

If you really want a budget 427 LS7 motor (assembled shortblock) here is what TSP offers for only $6,100.00 utilzing a fully assembled LS7 GM block! That is freaking TEMPTING!!!!

I had a Cartek built 441cid NA motor back in 2004 , it ran 9.95 at 138mph in the 1/4 and I drove it everywhere , it had great street manners , Cartek has a few big cube NA set ups down your way , if I can think of there screen names I'll pm you with them . Give Dave a call at 908-317-4496 for more info and pricing .

10 second passes with a 427 is very easy to do(with a set of DRs). Just shoot me a PM if you are interested. I'll get all the pricing together with the different options for you.

A blueprinted 427 with all forged parts is gonna be expensive but also bullet proof. I have enjoyed over 15K miles with no problems and mine is a daily driver. Easy to run in the mid to low tens with drag slicks. You will really enjoy the torque, particularly on the low end of the rpm range and surprising those C6Z06's.

I'm one member of the Bama contingent. I drive mine fairly often, even in our hot summers. The engine handles routine driving well, though its manners could do with a little updating (Dave says they can tune these far better now than when they built mine in '05). I'm going to upgrade my oil cooling as well (again, progress has been made) but don't really have to do anything if I don't want to. I've had the engine on the street for the past two years without any problem.
