I had the same thought. 3k for a motor and I'll take 2 or 3. :D
Maybe for a starter kit, new block maybe even a good start on a stock short block. Having lost a motor (by other means), I know they are much more.

Mines not lowered, but has the Vortex, and today I got caught in some torrental rain. Just tried to stay in the high spots of the road, and went about 30 mph. Didn't have to go through any deep standing water, but was on pins and needles all the way. :eek:

Common sense boys......I for one, sure as heck don't want water in my engine..For me, the thought of putting an air filter inches off the pavement just does not make sense..In a world of sunshine, yes...I would really like to hear from one owner who has a bottom feeder, and never worries about it while driving in a downpour..Just don't buy it,,but like they say different strokes :rolleyes:

I live in the DFW area, have the Vortex, drive in the rain and don't worry about it. I'm not going to drive my vette off into Lake Lewisville any more than I am my F150 4X4, but I also don't pull off under a freeway when it starts raining.

Hi Jeremy! I have the Haltech and worry a little. However, I am MORE worried about the LS1 intake than I am the Haltech. I really think GM changed the intake because they were experiencing the problem of hydrolocking w/ stock air boxes. I understand that none of the LS6 intake cars have this problem. Would like to get the new intake w/ a new cam and heads...maybe.

The service manager of my Chevy dealership told me he knew of two 2001 Vettes that hydro locked with bottom breather intakes, so this problem does exist with the LS6 intake cars, so be careful. The reason why you hear more about this problem on the earlier Vettes is because there are a whole lot more 1997 to 2000 Vettes out there than they are 2001s. I have a 98 and when I had the stock air box I drove through heavy rain and big puddles with no problems, the only way you can hydro lock my car with the stock air box is if you tried to make a u-boat out of it.

Dave Hill addressed this modification. He suggested leaving the factory set-up as is because of potential water problems. Use a K&N enclosed (no lid mods!) ; should releive anxiety !

Great way to clean out that carbon. The worst that's ever happened to me is some rough running for a minute and that was after going through water a truck shouldn't have gone through. Unless you pretty much submerge the filter, which would be real hard, I just wouldn/t worry too much. I don't even think about it in the rain. The filter is just about as high as the stock one. Just the scoop hangs down a little to scoop the air in. Now that other brand that everyone used to swear by, hangs really low and I think could be a problem.

any one know what the hp diff between the 02 Zo6 filter, and the vortex? If it's not great then it's worth the switch, if not I just park her in the floods and drive my other cars:D

White smoke = water in cylinders, NOT a confused sensor, period. You're NOT changing the intake!!!??? Then, don't bother us with your engine rebuild details next time. How many people will continue to listen to the "I drove through the Potomac with no problem" accounts and contnue to think (wish) hydrolock is a joke? You were REAL lucky. Might I humbly suggest next time you and others who think hydrolock can only happen to others see a puddle you get up to speed, throw it out of gear, turn-off the ignition, and coast through the water. But, I AM glad you lucked out THIS TIME. :yesnod:
