Default BBK Intake Manifold??

I was under the impression that it was an LS1 style, but their ad states it flows better than an LS6 intake. Anyone have experience with these?

I really don't know alot about the manifold, but being that is is made of a metal material, I would imagine that there might be somewhat of a heat soaking issue. I can't imagine that the metal manifold would disapate heat as well as a composite intake. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I think you'll find the opposite is true, that aluminum has a much higher heat transfer rate than plastic composite. That's why there is concern about using aluminum (metal) manifolds, but I've never seen any facts to prove conclusively that alumnium was a problem other than supposition.

Get this, My bbk is w/ in 10 deg of a composite after a track runs at watkins glen. Its after the car sits that the heat makes its way up into the maifold, but it cools as soon as you start fireing air through it again.

when I put the BBK on it made a little difference. When I put the headers on after the bbk I was blown away (i would say the stock exhaust mani was really restrictive so the bbk didn't make that much difference). LS6 mani wouldn't make that much difference either if the ex mani is stock.

So I had my car dynoed after the headers.....

LG pro headers to corsa ex, bbk manifold, k&N intake, and yella terra 1.8 roller rockers yielded me 369 rwhp and 379 rwtq
Stock 97 cam btw

I was at first concerned w/ heat soak as well. I am not concerend anymore

I bought my Z with the BBK manifold on it and hated it. I actually sold it and used a LS6 intake.
The BBK manifold was hot while running etc, it was never cool. The only time I can see or even use one of those intakes would be for a large inch motor, or under alot of boost/Nitrous. Otherwise they are usless and rob power.

unlss you've done head/cam work or are running an FI setup, there's no reason to get a FAST intake. An LS6 preforms quite well.

Yeah I wouldn't say the BBK is better than the ls6 just comprable, though I have no dyno test before and after the bbk or vs. the ls6. I wasn't trying to give a ringing endorsement just my observations.

I got whichever was less. When I got mine they were new and the price was less than $400.

BTW in normal driving I'll agree there's not enough cold air moving through the mani to keep it cool (with my normal driving there is ). On the track at wot Heat soak wasn't that bad.

It is heavier though and I'de say thats the biggest draw back, for obvious reasons but it also made installation more of a hand full b/c you need to hold it up and slip it back at the same time w/o it getting caught on any wires or hoses (I needed one more hand, but managed ).

if you can get a bbk or LS6 for cheep then do it. Metal intakes might be advantageous for nitrous and FI applicatrion too.

Another observation: The felpro gasket set I used w/ the BBK was thicker than oem and held the manifold up off the heads ~1/16 th an inch. With a little gap there it might not transfer as much heat as a direct metal on metal like the oem does. I know this because I just replaced the felpro w/ oem and noticed. I'll be going back to fel pro when they come in.

Just FWIW and good luck.
