Wow. You got guts, or you are just
Automatic transmission aren't built to take that kind of abuse. Especially the ones in the C5's. If you want to rev it up to 3k and drop it into gear, then you need a manual transmission.
Now that you learned your lesson, I hope your damage isn't too severe. But you probably trashed the transmission pretty bad. Call Rodney up at RPM, he has the best prices and A1 reputation. But even his built trannies may not take that kind of abuse. So I hope you don't do this again. If you want to come off the line hard, then get a stall convertor and maybe a tranny brake. Also, you should get a built differential too if you plan on running any tires that bites. OH..... add a tranny/differential brace along with it. Ching-ching $$$

I believe it's in the 8's.

You probably broke a output shaft. Have the rear R&R'ed with a heavy duty output shaft and call it a day. If you have the cash, probably wouldn't hurt for them to rebuild the trans while everything is apart.

If you want a better launch, get a high stall converter.

Rob, I used to live in G'ville. Best shop and probably the closest where I had all my work done is Next Level Performance in Orlando area:

http://www.nlperformance.com

They'll be able to troubleshoot and they've installed Rodney's tranny's before as well.
They can also recommend a reputable flat bed company to get it to them. Hope it all works out for u.

Also, u might want to call Rodney at RPM transmissions and explain to him what's going on. I know others on the forum said he was extremely helpful in giving advice in these matters. He'll help u at least do some troubleshooting to narrow down your problem.

It's not that they are rude, they are just (like myself) in utter disbelief that someone would do a neutral drop. I haven't done anything like that since high school. That's what a stall converter is for partner. Like others have said, hard lesson learned. Best of luck.

Hahaha! I remember the summer of my senior year teaching my friend Erin how to do them. She thought it was the greatest thing ever, and did them every time she took off from park. Good thing it was a lease!!

Default Not so hard on the drivetrain

Dropping an A4 into gear at 3K is hard on the tranny but is a piece of cake for the rest of the drivetrain. It is no different than dropping the clutch at 3K with a 6 Speed. The diff and axles should have no problem handling the load of 3K launch.

Not a good comparison. Doing a neutral drop on an auto trans is not comparable to dropping the clutch in a stick.

In a stick the gear is already set and locked in. That would seem to be contributing factor to less stress.

What I was trying to say is that it is definately much more destructive for the auto transmission than it is for a manual trans but not harder on the rest of the drivetrain. The shock load on the diff and axles is determined more by the amount of traction available.

I love neutral drops, we use to do them in my buddies ford tauraus station wagon. But that was in highschool. NO MORE NEUTRAL DROPS.
I really don't know much about autos, what about a trans brake

3k Neutral slams?? Thats about as smart as putting it in reverse from drive going 25 mph.. Why would anyone do this... Starting to see some really silly and bizzare posts..I guess the C5 s have come down in price enough for teenagers and kids in the early 20's to afford these cars and do stupid things to tear them up.. Jeez,, makes me want to puke

You got lucky..Get yourself a nice hardened output shaft and stay away from neutral drops. The high stall converter gives you a "similar" effect as a neutral drop w/o the abuse. The A4's in a vette are notoriously weak, so you have to be a little more careful

I have a hardened output shaft in my A4 and lots of passes on it with 400+rwhp and haven't had a problem breaking anything.

Glad to hear it was only a 300 hundy lesson. They may be tough to come by now. I not sure if DTE has any avail. I think they may have been low. But they are the people you want to talk to.

It's truly amazing, and then the guy gets upset and calls US rude for being truthful! I guess I was never "wealthy" enough to be able to do stupid stuff and just shrug it off. If I broke something, I was under the car fixing it myself.....

Off topic:

I don't think it's that as much as the feel good mentality kids are raised with today. Everybody gets a trophy...

When you screw up, someone NEEDS to tell you so... Just like when you do somethng good.
