Default Top Speed w/ A4?

Hello all,
What top speed will I get with 3;15 gear and same for a 3:42 gear? Can you run wide open on the top end in 4th(OD)? I guess the real question is the OD band strong enough to do this?

TIA,
Malcolm

Top speed is governed by Horsepower and aerodynamics. That's why Coupe has faster top speed than Z06.

Don't know for sure about our cars, but I had a Trans-Am with an auto- basically the same tranny we run, and the guy who built it for me told that long hi speed runs on a stocker would eventually do in the OD unless it had a cooler and some interior work.

don't forget gearing... That has to do with it to. If I'm not mistaken a c5 coupe tops out at 183 mph.

the z has a lower top speed than the coupes, due to the lower gearing. it will get to its top speed faster than the coupe because of the same reason (it has nothing to do with aerodynamics, theyre very similar). as to top speed on an a4??? prob too fast for you to worry about.

Never had to do this before, but I'm gonna do it now That's on the aerodynamics part of your statement. The aerodynamics are much better at top speeds and this is why with the new Z06 they used the coupe shape, but it's a fixed top for rigidity!! Even a little difference makes a huge improvement at those kinds of speeds.

Its gearing on a Z06, I can pull mine to 175 and it is still pulling strong until I hit rev limiter. Sure there is some aerodynamics but that is not the reason.

It has been WIDELY publicized since the very beginning of existence for the FRC that the aerodynamics hold it back on the top end.

Either car is GEARED for over 250mph but they are both drag limited to their top speeds and the coupe is about 8mph faster in spite of 55 less hp.

I can tell you that my vert can handle a LOT higher top speed than the driver can!

163 with 3.73s and a built A4, but it comes sooooooo fast

By the time a stocker/other sports car gets to 163 they'll be out of road

What gear where you in that you were hiting the rev limiter. I believe that top speed is in 5th, because you need the extra gear in 5th to overcome drag.
