Rear Diff Whining After 3.42 Install
I just had a reputable local shop install a 3.42sp z06 rear end that I purchased from a CF vendor into my '03 C5A4.It now has an obvious whine on accel and decel..The vendor said it was working fine in the unit it was taken out of..Is this a norm for the 04 c5 z06? The car this diff came out of was supposed to have low miles and and 04 model.....Any ideas? My 2.73's didnt make any noises so I presume that the 3.42's should be the same!

Did you break-in the gears? Even if though they are used I'm sure the mating sufaces are different. Normal break-in calls for 300 miles of easy driving. No break-in is one posible reason for the whine.

It is NOT normal to have any whine. There is really no breakin period for a differential. . . . outside of severe launches for the first 100-300 miles. I drove up to 90mph two days after having my Z06 3.42 installed.

The wine is not normal, if the diff already had miles on it and the shop didnt take it apart then it came out of the previous car with a wine. They dont go away, get your money back
