Default Highest Raising Floor Jack

I am thinking about getting another jack. Right now I have a 3 ton jack that lifts about 19 inches, but it not a low profile and it is heavy as heck. What is the highest rising jack that I could get? I am looking at some of the aluminum jacks for the light weight. Any suggestions? I have heard many say craftsman, but I was hoping to find a higher lifting jack.

What I have done, and I'm sure many others, is take 2 x 10's and make step ups. The first 2x10 lays flat on the ground and is about 2' long, the second one sits righ on top of it and is 1' long. YOu put these at each of the frotn wheel and drive up the steps which raises the car and extra 3", plenty to get basically any jack under. If I want to go reall high, I jack the car up, put the jack stands under, lower the jack, adn then stck wood say 4 pieces of 2 x 10 x 2' on top of the jack, and that gives you another 6". Works like a charm, be sure oyu have good jackstands!! Good luck!! Dan

These cost a bundle but seem like the ideal floor jack for working on a vette:

I agree I have the DK13HLQ and would not trade that thing for nothing. Best damn jack I have ever owned and worth every penney.

For just the Vette, a Craftman works fine. I used mine to swap my exhaust (twice). I have a lifted truck and I max it out but it works for tire rotations on it too. Last point, it's only $100.

That one looks awesome, but it is a little out of my price range. I would like to use that kind of money towards a 4 post lift one day.

How strong of a jack do you need for a Vette? 2 ton? 1.5 ton?

A 1.5 ton should be sufficient since you would only lift at most half the car at once. I currently have a 3 ton and more than I need.

I plan to check this one out. Do you recall which model you have?

Craftsman makes the worst jacks possible. Period. I've gone through at least 4-5 of them in my lifetime (I'm only 27, and I'm not a mechanic!).

http://www.asedeals.com/Ranger_floor_jacks.html

$240 shipped, 31.5" max height, 2 tons, 3.5" tall at lowest. Long frame too (roughly 3') for getting under the crossmember easily.

AC Hydraulics are really nice, but their jack with basically the same specs is about 3x the cost.

Two ton with a pair of 3 ton jack stands for $119. on sale. It works well for my car and I've seen them advertised for as low as $99. Three ton jackstands are too small BTW. Buy 12 ton or bigger.
