Guys while driving a buddys vette down the street i lowerd the steering wheel with the lever you pull to you and then push back to put in place. And the dang thing is not catching anymore to adjust the wheel up and down. The telescopic part works fine, what to do?
How much or wha tis the problem going to cost me. or can i fix it my self, BTW only has 18,500mi
It's a pretty simple device, you're going to have to remove the steering wheel surround in order to see why it's not catching.
You say you'll pulled it toward you and then pushed it back, normally it's spring loaded so all you would have to do is pull it toward you and release to let it spring back.
Just the other day I had the same problem. It seems the spring is broken or a pin is broken. The steering wheel is in the up position. Anyone know the fix.

Remove the steering wheel surround and you'll see how it works, there is a spring that holds the column in the "up" position and then a pin holds it in whatever position you select.
So with the pin holding the column straight and level, if you pull on the selector lever it should spring to the "up" position.
You know that the pin is broken when you can move the column without pulling on the lever and the spring is broken when you pull the lever and the column just sort of flops around.
