Default Brake upgrade options.

I have a 2002 Coupe with 19k miles. The car wasn't tracked or abused so I know the brakes are in decent shape. The pads have plenty of life left as well.

I wasn't too impressed (with the brakes only!!) when I first test drove the vette. They were better than my current car but not at a "level" that I want them at. For example a G35 sedan feels like it grips a bit better than the vette maybe because it has overboosted brakes?! But I just want a quicker grab than stock.

I am not interested in $2000 stop tech kits which i think are very overpriced... I am looking for cheaper alternatives.

Do the C5 Z06 calipers bolt on directly to a coupe? Do the thin spokes have enough clearance for upgraded calipers?

If I wanted to stick with OEM parts would the Z06 calipers/rotors provide a good upgrade to stock?! Or am I wasting my time.

Oh and I checked their site. And all I saw was a $1850 kit with 4 piston calipers and 13" or 14" rotors.

C5 Z06 calipers are the same as the stock ones just a different color.

If you want more stopping power try Z06 Pads and fresh brake fluid. That is the cheapest way out. More stopping power Hawk HP+. I ran Hp+ for about 5 days on the track and they really stop your car. Trade off is dust - lots of dust.

I now have Wilwood package which we are giving good deals on still, but out of your price range.

Learn something new every day. I thought the Z06 had bigger calipers and rotors.

Looks like I will stick with the stock setup in the near feature. I don't really see the need to change out the calipers just for their color.

Thanks for the reply .

I'd agree with getting some performance pads first.

Tires and pads will be your best chance at an upgrade.

Considering some of the testing done by the car magazines I think you will find in a head to head test of braking your C5 will be stopped from 100 mph before your G35 comes close to stopping. The C5 brakes are pretty good for street driving and the occasional high speed stop.

Get some stainless steel lines as well, it sounds like a gimmick... but it is a noticable difference. The rubber line they replace expands with pressure. SS lines do not expand, you'll get more "bite" out of the brakes.

you could always try going with c6 z51 rotors, they look good & they're affordable.

Before you spend any money, bleed the brakes. Then take it out some place lonely and do 6 panic stops from 80+ mph. That'll clean off any brake residue from your rotors and pads, and restore your faith in C5 brakes.

i believe everything was around 600.

that was for 4 rotors, 4 relocating brackets (1 time purchase), F/R z06 pads and shipping (they're HEAVY).

Gene's prices were fair.

FYI

please do not get drilled rotors if you are going to track your car or if you are very heavy on the brake. Drilled and Drilled/Sotted rotors are much more proned to crack under very aggressive driving.

For most people you will never push the car that much, but if you are doing track days stay away fromt that style.
