Default lifter or valve tap/tick

hey guys. i bought a 2001 z06 recently. ive always heard a lil tick tick tick under the hood, but i investigated the other day. its coming from the heads. bein new to vettes, im wondering if this is somewhat normal(?) ....the car runs like a champ but im kinda worried. should i just monitor this and see if it gets worse or what? what kind of money am i lookin at to change lifters(or adjust)?

The LS1 is noted for it's "Sewing machine" noises coming from the valve train. It gets worse inside the car if you go to an aftermarket shifter and don't install extra rubber seal around the shift rod and even worse if you go with a performance cam.

Of course, having not heard yours I can't say for sure, but I will say that it is bad enough when it is normal to make most think something is wrong

Now, on to the "marbles in the can" noise when the engine is running, the shifter is in neutral and the clutch is released......

Good luck and enjoy the greatest American car ever

I disagree. A pronounce "tick" is not normal. Has you localized the sound, and if so, be specific.

i probably should listen to someone elses motor to see if theres a similarity. before buying the z06, i would just see em and wish i had one. never rode in one, never got close to one. i bought it off an older man and he had all the maintenance records(that doesnt mean that he didnt drive the car like an ahole though ) well hopefully its nothing. but yeah the sound is coming from both heads. i put my ear on the valve cover...tick tick tick. seems to go away a lil bit after the engine is warm.

Mine doesn't tick, before, or after the H/C. Maybe I'm just deaf?

They say installing the Cadillac Racing lifters will quiet it down a lot...especially after a cam and head change.

Not all cars are exactly the same. The sewing machine sound is very common in these cars. Some more pronounced than others.

I would think the sound you're hearing is our standard sewing machine noise.

If you want to clear your mind, just find a dealership that has one and have them start it up. Enjoy the new ride!!!
