I have a 2000 and the turn signal bulbs literally are exploding in their sockets once a week. Anyone know why? short? Multifunction switch/relay? I can remove the headlight assy faster than any nascar pit crew can.
no. it happenes a lot to people that live in wet areas. the problem is water gets into the blinker housing and cold water on a hot bulb makes it explode. If you look in the stickys, you'll find there's a fix for it, I just don't recall the fix off hand. It has been brought up quite a bit.

the bulb usually burns a hole on the top of the housing and this is where water leaks in. high temp sealer/tape should help
You need to take a good look at the housing. It may be a hairline crack causing it. If bulbs are buring out that quickly it can only be a bad bulb holder or water ingress. The latter is very common.

I had the same problem and I just replaced mine with the clear ones and found that the old ones both had heat cracks in the top and there was moisture inside the lens. Also on both the 'O'-rings were missing.
In the new ones I glued a 1" square mirror on the inside top of the lens and glued a dessicant cartridge (from prescription drug bottle) in each lens away from the bulb. I also put new 'O'-rings on the socket. The 'O'-Rings are not the standard kins, they are kind of flattened. Picked them up at NAPA.
Are you using the stock bulbs, or do you have some sort of halogen bulbs?
If they are halogen, and you handle them, just the oil from your skin will cause hot spots and bulb failure.
Plus, I have not had any problems with the stock bulbs getting too hot and melting the housing.

I live a few miles south of you and have had the same problem. Everytime I hit a deep puddle I would blow out a bulb. About a year ago I packed the bulb sockets with dielectric grease and covered the bulbs with the grease. Havent had a problem since.
The bulb gets real hot and over the years will eventually crack the plastic housing. Then water can get in ... hot bulb, cold water, poof!
I used RTV silicon to seal the cracks. No problems since.
i would mend the burned in hole (if present) and use some type of sealant on the lense where it connects to the housing. i always put lenses under a heat lamp for a while to burn out any unwanted moisture.

this helps to prevent any furture problems as well.

This worked for my buddy's 2000 SS Camaro. He went from replacing them almost weekly to not at all.
