Default Help! Battery Drain issues

PROBLEMS FIXED...

I was able to fix the battery drainage problem and the Right brake light problem. The dealer was right on both cases. I removed the drivers seat switch and the drainage dropped down to around 20 mA which I believe is typical with C5s. I also had to tear apart the consol and dash to replace the multifunction switch (basically the blinker stick) and somehow that solved the right brake light issue.
So I'm much happier now.

PROBLEMS FIXED...

I've been having all sorts of electrical problems... took it to a dealer and not to pleased with their diagnoses. I might spend some time to explain the whole situation later, but it'll be a long post.

Anyway, does anyone know the typical drain on a battery when it sits idle???

Mine goes to about 640 milliamps after about 3 minutes, then after around 10-15 minutes it drops down to 280 and stays there.

What should a good working 2001 Vette be? It's obviously not going to be 0, but it should be fairly low.

Also anyone with stuck window problems... the hammer trick works pretty well.

Has anybody measured this????

I've already gone through about 3-4 batteries. The Original, and a couple of Exide Orbitals.

The dealer says there is a short in the drivers seat switch (P/N 12135158). But I pulled the circuit breakers to both power seats and still received the same drain. Also from my experience with them. I'm not too confident in their abilities

Does anyone know where that part is located and what I have to do to replace it??? I've found the part for about 70 bucks just need to know where it is in the car.

My right side brake lights aren't working as well. Dealer says a multifunction switch in the steering column is the problem.

Also, I've already fixed the window problem... had to take apart the door panel and the speaker. Then I tapped the end of the regulator with a hammer while holding the down button. Dealer wanted to replace the regulator for $684. I fixed it for free

Do a search under Bill Curlee. He has a few posts on the subject. I had that problem and he pointed me in the right direction. I think the drain in sleep mode should be approx 20-30 milliamps, but doublecheck with his posts.

Default you have something not shutting down in sleep mode

once everything is asleep it should only be about 20-30 mA. you need to wire in a digital meter on the negative wire on the battery. Watch as it goes down and as stuff shuts off. Then once it stabilizes you need to start pulling fuses from the fuse block in the passenger footwell. The culprit for the drain will be found when you pull the right fuse and the mA drops to 20-30. You then need to list the DIC codes here and also which fuse you pulled got the right response on here for us to try to figure out....

hth,

Sully

P.S. yes.... Bill Curlee is the expert here with this

I've just PM'd Bill, from info I've been gathering so far 20 mA drain in about 15 minutes is correct.

Like I said in the orignal post the dealer says its the drivers seat switch... but I pulled the fuses (it says circuit breakers, but its in the fuse box) under the passenger side floor, which disabled the power seats completly, but I still recieved the same drain.

I have another post in the general section if your interested

Try the radio. Mine was very similar to yours. 260ma with all asleep. From what I've seen so far it's been seats, windows and radio...unless you have a light on somewhere. Good luck and don't forget to report back.

Sounds good... I'll be pulling some fuses hopefully tonight.

radio, seats, and windows.

Anything else you might know could be a culprit?
