Default Using a little oil ????

I have noticed that my C5-2001-6sp will need a half quart of oil every 750 miles. I park in a clean garage with no oil drips anywhere and I keep the lady very clean. There are no signs of oil ... where is the oil going? Should I be concerned? I am a spriited driver so I occasionally do get close to redline.

Very common problem in some C5s, solved in 2002, as I recall.

So a search on the Forum and you'll find plenty on it. The engines blow the oil up through the rings into the combustion chamber. GM had a protocol whereby they would decide if the problem was bad enough to replace the rings on the engines affected, of course when the car was under the original warranty.

Good luck.

This is a common problem for 2001 models. Mine does, but it is minimal. It just depends how hard I am driving. High RPMS will cause it to go through more.

Default NO recall...............

There was no recall for the LS1 and LS6 engines that burn "excessive oil". Check out this article http://www.idavette.net/hib/02ls6/page5.htm The is a technical service bulletin (TSB) 01-06-01-023A

Do you tend to drive around with the transmission in lower gears so the engine revs are over 3500 rpm with little or no load on the engine? If so stop doing that and your oil mileage will increase. That is one of the problems GM had with the rings they used in 2001. People who drove like that were not anticipated and the rings would flutter causing oil consumption.

Bill has your best advice stated above! Examine your driving habits. Try to stay out of moderate to high RPM's in a "NO LOAD or LOW" engine load condition.

keeping the RPS high may sound good and turn heads, but,,,,,,it causes ring flutter and thus, loss of oil control. The very best and least expensive correction is to stay in the upper gears as much as possible and keep your RPM's below 2000 when your just cruising. You can still have fun; just ****** it down to second or third when you need to and hammer the tires!

I have the same car but keep the RPM down below (3500) in town with no load, and use no oil the last 3000 miles.
