Default A&A Exhaust Modification

Ok so i was wondering if anyone had some more pictures they could post about the mod to add a pipe at the mufflers to bypass them. Heres the pictures i have so far.. Also, anyone who has done this, how much did it cost and is it worth the modification for sound difference. Furthermore, does anyone know where i can purchase a test pipe or straight thru pipe to replace the catalytic converter?

Its known as the A&A exhaust mod. It was originally done by Andy at A&A and he sold kits with a piece of pipe and instructions on how to do the mod. Several years ago the cost was from $60 to $100 total depending on where you lived.

If you want a test pipe you are going to have to make it yourself. I haven't seen test pipes in the stores in a very long time.

Ok so the question continues, i found the page on how to do this modification, i was wondering where some of you might have got this modification done? Im sure i can't just walk up to any midas or meineke shop and ask them to do this for me for a set price... Any help / price quotes for it? Suggestions?

To each, his own. I don't really care for the looks of the stock C5 pipe either and I'm happy I installed an aftermarket one. Good luck with your project.

Did you install a cat-back system or just mufflers?
It seems to me that a cat-back system will not add but only a few horsepower, but change the sound of the exhaust, to properly get a decent horsepower gain you would need to install an aftermarket catback, including a X-pipe and some headers to see any decent gains.. Am i correct or wrong about this? This price would be (lets just say) Catback + X-Pipe + Headers = Around 1500$ just for the parts for a gain of what.. 20hp on a good setup? Wouldn't it be just worth getting a z06 the same year for 2-3k more and getting the 50 more hp (On 2002+ years) I have been debating whether or not it would just be worth it to buy a 2002 z06 vette over my 2001 coupe instead of doing this exhaust modification, getting 50 more hp, and not having to change the z06 exhaust... Your comments would be appreciated. I just seems useless to spend the money when you could go bigger by throwing in a thousand more and getting more bang for the buck.

Many of us went with what has become known as "Ebay Headers".
The most recent package is like $400 shipped for long tube headers and an Xpipe.
Add high flow cats and the muffler of your choice.

Do a search on the Forum for EBAY HEADERS -
should be two threads on this - one is closed, the other is up to date.

So $400 for the x-pipe and headers, and a decent catback will still run 600+ so thats still running around 1,000 dollars.. Im just wondering if its really worth spending that much money when you could invest a few grand more and get a z06 that already has 50 more horses compared to what you would have to spend to get them back on a coupe.

I also did a search as you said, and it seems there has been nothing but install problems with the headers, seems like a Pain in the rear, especially for someone like me without access to a lift.

I had a local chain shop- Mieneke (sp?) or Midas (not sure which one it was now) do mine last summer and it ran me about $100 bucks total. The sound is decent and a lot of the other guys in my club thinks it sounds better than their $1000 aftermarket systems. But I think I need something louder. I am now leaning towards the Borla Stingers. Hope this helps.

Yes, and it was better than spending $1000. If I did not like it, I was going to change it away. But I do.

I had thought about doing the by pass but I went with the headers and x pipe. The ti exhaust on the Zo6 creates a bigger problem finding someone to weld. I didn't want to replace the TIs so I installed cut outs to open up when I want and keep quiet most of the time. I have pics in my corvette photos to left. I see that you are in the St. Louis area. I have a lift and would being willing to help if you decide to install headers etc.

Would you be able to help with just the A&A mod, i am really still deciding if It would be worth it to just buy a z06 instead of spending a few thousand just to get it to the same horsepower as a stock z06.

If it horsepower your looking for, $1000 with get you 10RWHP at the most. The manufactures "ratings" are way to high, the dyno charts and 1/4 mile times have proven that over and over.

Most people do exhaust for the sounds and some HP gains, IMHO. That is why I did the AA mod.

I could help you take the rear section off and take them to a muffler shop for welding.
