Default C5 Clutch Slave/Master Cylinder ?

I'm going with the Centerforce DF395010 12" clutch in my 01 C5 which they told me is good for 800 ft-lbs & bolts to the stock flywheel (DF017010 11" is good for 625 ft-lbs). They recommend replacing the slave & master cylinders. The originals only have 62.5K miles, does they really need replaced?

Some CF threads mention people flushing the fluid, some go aftermarket, some a drill mod. ???? What is the recommended aftermarket cyl? Adjustable?

FYI, my GM dealer verified that 04 C5 stock & Z06 salve/master cyls are the same. I forgot to ask if that was the same as my 01. Comes w/ TO bearing BTW.

Any input appreciated.

Definite yes on the late slave and throwout bearing. Use your judgement on the M/C, since you can change it later if you need to. There's an in-line quick-connect between the two and the M/C can be changed by itself with very little work involved if you decide to later.

either buy another couple hundred dollars in parts abd do it right, or make a $1500 mistake later.

Thanks guys. I had some similar thoughts & just ordered the 04 slave & pilot bearing. Just have to get the FW resurfaced/balanced now.

Make sure you get your flywheel/clutch/pressure plate balanced as an assembly. Mucho importante.

Indeed. Getting the FW resurfaced & "0" balanced today. It's always good to get the confirming replies to reassure you're on the right track!

I think that it is important that you also do the drill mod. The restriction is in the slave cylinder line, where it goes into the slave. The hole in the fitting is only about 1/16" and you can enlarge it to 1/8"

By opening up the hole, it allows for faster hydraulic fluid movement which lets the clutch release and engage faster. This is very helpful at high rpm so that the clutch doesn't slip as much and generate more heat which in turn can cause the fluid to also get hot and cause the dreaded sticky pedal.
