Default A4 Track Guys Speak Out

Hey Guys, your track experience during launch can be a big help to me. I have all the usual bolt ons and LG'S 5GX3 cam, Pro Exhaust and AFR Heads. I am running 373 gear with harden shaft with 3600 stall converter. After staging while braking what RPM works best for you before launch???
Thanks!!! Frank

You got a lot more "bolt ons" than I do. I launch my A4 at brake on and 1300 to 1400 rpm because I have street tires. and run high 12's with just vararam and catback

Anything more on the rpm's and my tires break loose. I'm about to get my stock TC changed to a 2800 Vigilante, so that will change the rules!

I had better luck staging it with the highest rpm's I could hold. It did not really make a big performance gain, but it definitely produced more consistent launches. When I tried to flash the converter from at or near idle, the launches were hit and miss. It still got traction in the 1.70's, but brake torquing at higher rpm's would get me consistent 1.65's. Vig 3200 w/3.15's btw.

alot of guys that run @ the track, use a transbrake, which places the transmission in first and reverse gears at the same time, effectively "braking" the transmission. With the transmission locked in this manner, the engine can be accelerated to a certain RPM in preparation for launch and the racer doesn't need to worry about the car creeping forward. When the green light illuminates on the Christmas Tree the transbrake is released (either automatically by a delay box or manually by the driver) and the car launches forward, its engine already at or near the beginning of its powerband and the transmission already in gear.

Your mods are the same as mine, EXCEPT I run the stock (untouched factory LS1 heads) That said I launch from idle. Got my best this past Saturday night ran an 11.59 @ 119.44 mph in South Florida air

I don't know your tires and all your mods but here's my routine. I run the MT drag radials, do a good burnout, just enough to clean the tires and get them warm, don't melt them! Roll up to the 1st light, keep it tight (braketorque)to the second light, and stay there, just enough pedal to keep the slack out. I'm about 1200rpm, (it idles about 1050 and I have 3800 stall) let the stall do it's job and whiplash you out. Ofcourse there is alot of play here depending on all your mods. I ran a 10:73 at 126mph with a 1.49 60ft time on the motor. I would have done better, still tuning, but that's the best advice I can give you.

With my old SS4000, the highest RPM possible without going through the brakes netted my best 60's.

Curious if you can launch you car at the track by flooring it at the start --or do you have to feather the throttle some ???
