Default Poll: Column Lock Status

I just installed a Column Lock Block in my C5 and I am curious as to what most members have done concerning this issue.

GM fix about three years ago with no problems. Does anyone know if GM is bypassing the column lock completely on the 01's? I know mine still comes on. I need to know if I should take it in again to the dealer.

CLB on my shelf, going to install it this weekend. 01 with the GM fix but I don't trust it as it gave me a scare a couple weeks ago.

The bypass kit is worth every penny for peace of mind. Those who need it and haven't installed one are living dangerously. Don't wait until others can say "I told you so!"

Nothing done yet, I'd take it to a local GM dealer since it's free, but worried about some guy scratching/other nightmare thing happening.

True it's only $50 for an aftermarket CLB, but in CA that's a tank of gas.

After 3+ years, and considering myself lucky, I was unlucky this past Monday and my column locked up.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1666899

The lucky part is that my car was sitting in my driveway. Using everything listed in the FAQ, I was able to get the column to unlock the next day after a little time on a battery charger and some hard twisting of the steering wheel. The really funny part is....I had a CLB the whole time, but it was sitting on my garage shelf and was not installed in the car!! Meaningless to say, my laziness has passed and the CLB is now installed!!!

I was lucky to be at home when it happened. It's not a matter of "if" your column will lock up, but rather "when" it will lock up. If you have an MN6, you should buy a CLB and install it ASAP!

Default CLB installed

I installed my CLB (from Corvetttes of Houston) last year...right after I had the "remove key and wait 10 seconds" message appear on the DIC.

Haven't had a problem since...
