A4's dont need a CLB? If thats correct then I can stop worrying!
Its a 98 if that matters
I'd worry!
I installed a CLB in my 98 A4 and that's when my problems begin, ended up removing it and doing the GM recall myself.
The issue was at the time GM said my car wasn't on the recall list, 3 months later it was.
BTW GM reimbursed me for the parts and labor.
what is colum lock exactly and do 02 Z06's suffer from it? i do not know if my car has a CLB or a CAGS eliminator... how do i tell?
The column lock actuator motor locks your steering wheel when you have removed the key and you're not moving. The PCM shuts off your gas supply when IT THINKS your steering wheel column lock is locked and you're moving. The CLB prevents most except shutting the gas off which is another post another time. With the key out of the ignition, move the steering wheel from side to side. If it locks, get a CLB. If it doesn't, you either have a CLB or the recall. If you have a CAGS eliminator, you can shift into second gear between 15-19 mph when the shift light is on. The end.
I'd worry!

This is my nightmare I install the clb in my 97 and have problems. I have seen post on 97 and 98 C5s that they may have a voltage problem with
running the clb this is what has kept me from installing the clb. I want peace of mind but not sure what to do, there are so many horror stories
on the form about this and so many post about the column lock that my head spins
I guess I will go talk nice to a dealer find out what has been done to my car, I don't know if it has had the first recall on the column lock done.
Peace of mind for me would be to remove the lock plate and take the fuel cut off crap out completely.
Yep I am in this group...
GM did the recall, my problems started, then they did more to it, the problem persisted. I put in the CLB and I still get the Pull Key wait 10 secs...now my next move is to disable the fuel kill/lock message with EFI Live Tables G1201 and G0801
